Sounds like Cowher is out: Bill Cowher: 'Highly unlikely' I'll coach in near future - NFL.com

Really too bad -- I would have loved to see this. You know he would get our D playing better ball, and he's a serious motivator. Would have all kinds of cred with players and likely be able to get very strong assistants. Sigh.

From the standpoint of assembling a staff, getting a head start on free agency & draft prep, making internal roster decisions yes, it can have a negative effect. But, as Matty said, if he's your guy then it shouldn't matter as much.

As a LSU fan, I might kill Dan Synder if he did that crap.

"Not a head coach type" from evidently his biggest fan pretty much says it all. Hopefully we steal him away from the Cowpokes to be our next ST coach, nothing more.

Hope we start seeing some legit candidates interview soon.

There is no way that Dan Snyder is going to hire a virtually unknown coach to lead his team. The new coach is going to be a big name. I just don't know which one.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the Redskins are flying under the radar while they are putting together a deal for David Shaw or Chucky.

David Shaw would probably be a good NFL HC from the leadership and player management perspective, but if he were hired here, I wouldn't want him calling the plays. We would need to find an excellent OC to be responsible for that. Shaw's playcalling in the Rose Bowl was not impressive, and he has been knocked before for his unimaginative playcalling.

I would rather have Jay Gruden.

I agree. They went "all in" on RGIII and feel they failed with Shanahan. They can't afford to "waste" RGIII on an unproven guy. They need a proven commodity who's #1 job will be to coach up and maximize RGIIIs potential. I would say theres a 80% chance the guy we hire has been a "big name" NFL head coach before. I also dont think we're seriously considering any defensive-minded coaches.

I would bet on these candidates, in the following order:

1. Wisenhut
2. Cowher
3. Jay Gruden
4. Jon Gruden
5. Jim Caldwell

Someone a few posts up just said Cowher himself says it's highly unlikely that he'll coach again anytime soon.
