Re: Your go to vacation spots

There are several places that have sky diving but I would be no help. As fo fishing let me go to a site and ask for some help and see what I find. You do have Jenett's fishing pier in that area that was just built and is very nice. This time of year the action for spot and croaker should be pretty good. Its also not very expensive.

Re: Your go to vacation spots

I just got back from there. My kids are in that age range. Here are a few suggestions:

3- is there anything to do around that area .. we are going to be a couple of families with 5 kids from 1 yr to 6 yrs old

I agree with Firstdown on the aquariums, especially with kids. We enjoyed the one at Roanoke Island with ours.

Hit the Kittty Hawk Wright Brothers museum, but make sure to drive around to the other side of the hill where the big granite monument is, they have a life-size metal recreation of the Wright Flyer your kids can climb on and take pictures. My kids loved that.

Hit the Jockey's Ridge State Park dunes. It's a few miles south in Nags Head. My kids had a blast running down them and you can get some hilarious pictures of them tumbling. I'd go in the morning or afternoon, not at peak heat hours since it gets hot.

5 - any bbq/food places that we must try out

Best Carolina BBQ we got was all the way up in Corolla at Corolla Village BBQ, so not likely worth the drive.

Great burger and seafood fast food joint in Kitty Hawk is John's Drive In. It's just a block from the beach. The mahi mahi fish and chips are great and their shakes are good. Old and authentic and better than any fast food places.

Driving-wise, make sure to take 664 around Norfolk to avoid the city traffic and keep your eyes on traffic on 95 and be ready to jump off on Route 1 between DC and Richmond if there's an accident or a bad back-up.

Have a great time. Work's been tough this week after being down there all of last week.

John's is actually on the beach road 4 mile marker and they only have picnic tables outside. Great food but parking sucks.

The raod to drive around the back is Colington Road across from Dairy Q and if you keep goin down Colington Road you will hit Billy's Seafood. Its a winding road back to Billy's and its just over the bridge.

The info I gave you in my first post I was thinking you where in Nags Head not kitty hawk. The info is good its just a little drive south from where you are staying. Do you know what mile marker you near.

we drove down to avalon pier and plan on driving down to perhaps as far as nags head today.

my buddy and his wife did save a 40 plus year old guy from drowning in the ocean yesterday. they say he stank of whiskey .. it was 11 am.

Re: Your go to vacation spots

if you want good BBQ in OBX gotta hit Pigman BBQ around milepost 6.5. They actually have some old Skins pics hanging up in there. Trying the Tuna BBQ, outstanding

You should have gone there back in the 80's as it was kind of a gost town. We would run up and down the beaches serching for waves without a care in the world. The dunes had 4x4 trails all over the place put now cottages sit in those spots.

The times we ate at Pigmans it pretty much sucked but its been 10 years or more. We gave it several tries as did other and we all agreed it was not very good. I'll have to give it a try and see if its changed.

I'll have to give that a try. Have you had their regular BBQ? I've had it drunk and hungry and it still was not very good.
