Re: Who's the coolest that you met??

I used to go to training camp back in Carlisle every summer. I met and have pics with every significant player from the 80's Redskins. My highlite would be Joe Gibbs...one year I came up with a press pass and was able to get on the Dickinson Field sideline for the entire week. One of the days I had about a 10 minute conversation with Coach Gibbs after practice...I was a teenager who he never laid eyes on before and he spent a good 5 to 10 minutes with me talking. He asked where I was from and when I told him Philly we started talking about some of the Eagles Skins games in Philly that I had gone too. That was when Buddy coached them and you could tell how much he enjoyed beating them. I will never forget that day...Joe Gibbs is all class...truely a great man.

Dave Butz. I was friends with his oldest son when we were kids (prior to Kindergarten through 6th grade). I lost touch with him around middle school, when they moved back to Illinois for good. Anyways, Mr. Butz took us and another friend to Redskin Park in Herndon, shortly after they beat Minnesota in the '87 NFC championship game. It may have been the following afternoon. The players were ecstatic. It seemed like the whole team was there, although I don't remember seeing Art Monk, Doug Williams, George Rogers or Jay Schroeder. It was over twenty years ago so my memory is a little fuzzy. I'm pretty sure that most of the Hogs, Darrell Green, Daryl Grant, Neal Olkewicz, Monte Coleman, Alvin Walton, Todd Bowles, Gary Clark, Ricky Sanders, Don Warren and any other guy that you can imagine was there. Timmy Smith wasn't quite yet very well known, but we may have crossed paths. Who knows? The guy I remember most was Wally Klein. He was a big dude and really friendly. I remember Vernon Dean too. Sonny Jurgensen was there filming a show. I was ten years old and felt like life couldn't get any better. I was thrilled to say the least and I'll remember that experience as long as I live.

Thank you. You're right about the screen name. I picked Warren85Ellard to bring some pride back to the #85. Lloyd is now gone. .... I'm not sure if I'm crazy about Ocho85Sinco.

He was definitely a big man. Very quiet too. I have a few of his autographs too. My favorite is on a black and white picture where he's kneeling on a practice field, rocking the mustache. I guess you would call it a publicity photo. I hope they're still at my parents house. I need to go get them framed a.s.a.p..
