Sam Fortie wrote this article and I have it saved…here is the key part, you want your QB to progress and have success, then you put him under center.

One way to see it is on play-action fakes. Fakes from under center, known as “hard” play-action, generally force linebackers to step up to stop the run more aggressively than “soft” fakes from shotgun, which allow linebackers a split second longer to read the play, letting them stay in passing lanes longer and making the quarterback’s margin for error smaller.
In January, Fox NFL broadcaster Greg Olsen pointed out one common thread among C.J. Stroud, Jordan Love and Brock Purdy, three young quarterbacks who had success last season: Their offensive coordinators made things easier on them by putting them under center on early downs.
I love this post, I hope we implement it as we have a nice center now to make this work. Ironically, our line strength is the middle, which says trick the lbs with play action over their heads. This required running up the gut too. Again possible, but again opposite of Kingsbury in the past. I see a bit of a disconnect between our coaching and our free agency, particularly offense. Not having stand alone tackles who can be way outside in shotgun is going to make this whole air style impossible. I welcome the opposite of that, particularly to develop a rookie QB. What we really need is solid running with a dash of unpredictability on offense. Read and Chuck it will get a QB killed, particularly in the NFC East.

Not saying we should draft a DT when we already have two good players on big money deals, but I'm not gonna question Peters. You draft the guy you think has the best chance to succeed in the NFL, not the position you need the most. Look at the 2021 qb class - that class has mostly turned out to be ass and even Trevor Lawrence isn't a stud and he's the only one left with his original team.
?????? You just said you disagreed with me saying don't reach for a player and then argued to not to reach for a player? You probably need to see the post I was responding to.

You learn by playing. Never bought into the sit and learn stuff. Kirk is on borrowed time.

I really hope they do this. And I hope they have a fullback on the roster. If I see Kingsberry come out in 4 and 5 wides then I feel like we're in trouble.

Re: Commanders 2024 NFL Draft Thread

and I do agree, we missed the top tiers of OT, so probably better to take the higher value at CB etc, and see if there's a trade or cut at OT somewhere along the way (or draft a lower tier prospect at some point and hope?).

Two recent examples of sitting and learning panning out: Patrick Mahomes and Jordan Love.

Both likely would have been just fine if they played right away, especially PM

FWIW, per JP Finlay:

"Peters says the Commanders made some calls about moving up late but there wasn't a fit as the draft board fell."

Bottom line, today is the money day. Daniels will be whatever Daniels is and I hope that he is amazing. But this draft will be graded based on the Sweat and Young trades and the players resulting from them.

That argument is all hearsay because it's not solvable. Playing the what if game doesn't help.

You don't know that though. That's the entire point. THey were successful after sitting. Most of the QBs successful sat first for the most part. Either that or the ones that "succeed" are done once their running ability wanes around 31 years of age.

I told a coworker yesterday I was pretty meh going into the first round…Friday is the night I was looking most forward too

I really think tonight is a major opportunity which could set up this franchise for years.

For us in the Snyder era, whether you played right away (Forbes) or didn’t play right away (Howell) made no difference in the end due to lousy team management and coaching

I get why they did it, Cousins is on the wrong side of 35 and coming back from a major injury. If it happens again they are set to move on. If it doesn't happen a good young qb gets to sit for 2-3 years and be ready when Cousins can't do the job anymore. Win-win.

The NFL is a 2 qb per team league now, rare are the qb's that can go year after year after year without some sort of injury. If you don't have a solid backup qb you're fucked.
