Can't wait for it to be torn down.

Re: The Sam Howell Thread

Meks I give you credit for being committed to him.
Statistically, Sam finished as the worst QB to start a full season.
Brissett lead the NFL in passer rating.

Seasons over, I’m thankful for Sam delivering us the 2nd overall pick. We couldn’t have done that with Brissett.

I suspect Denver will pick up Howell after we cut him so they too can tank for a QB.

we're not cutting howell, he's cheap and better than anyone else we could get for the price.

No way.
Sam is the ex. You don’t keep them around.
Ex thought to be franchise QB
Ex team captain

You don’t bring in a rookie QB and leave the ex just sitting there hoping to get another shot.
If they draft a QB #2, they will have a veteran QB as backup.

With that said the new GM won't look past Howell's struggles and may bring in veteran QB competition for the back up QB role.......Sam Howell hasn't earned the back up QB spot either .

Re: The Sam Howell Thread

Howell is still good friends with Drake Maye, so if he is the pick then makes great sense to keep Sam around to ease his transition to the NFL

Re: The Sam Howell Thread

a vet qb would be about a 5m/year difference. Even if he's the #3, he's essentially free. People are being weird about this for no reason.

Agree. Howell has shown enough that the new regime would at least view him as a developmental piece. His floor is a solid no. 2…that has significant value where most starting QB miss time during the season in today’s NFL.

Maybe but it is also awkward like hey bud welcome to the team…here is my job. Also Sam isn’t exactly a seasoned vet who understands what it takes to have a career in the NFL. All I know is they need to take one of the big 3 quarterbacks with the second pick.

Re: The Sam Howell Thread

Can he go on the PS or not? Would he have to be waived first? Matter of opinion I know, but he's solid #2 material and if he loses out to a vet that's injury prone, keeping him in house makes sense.

Re: The Sam Howell Thread

I'd love to keep Brissett and Sam and a new top draft pick but that's unrealistic. New staff will have to decide to keep Sam or JB - can't have all that cap money invested in 2 backups. We def. need a vet presence for a new rookie qb if we're going that route, and I don't think Sam is that guy yet.

Re: The Sam Howell Thread

There may be a team that sees SH as redeemable, a guy with great tools who spent his first real NFL season working in a burning dumpster. If being a starter is the path SH wants to be on, let him go. I’d be more comfortable with a Brissett-Maye combo than SH-Maye (or fill in your vet-#2 pick combo)

Re: The Sam Howell Thread

JB will be looking for a starting gig. Doubt he takes a new contract to stay as #2. That likely means #2 pick (Maye?), SH and a yet to be signed veteran in teh QB room for training camp. They're unlikely to trade SH without at least equivalent options in place, which is why I suggested he could go on the PS.
