A lot of guys they let go are picked up by other teams and do very little (Cassel, Wilfork, heck, even Blount only had 766 yards a 2 TDs for the Eagles, down from 1100+ and 18 TDs last year).
That all works great when you have TB12

our last few drafts have been solid, I can't say that they have been bust. We have a ton of rookies playing or had this yr

True, but TB12 has nothing to do with the defensive players falling off the map once they leave the Pats, or Cassel for that matter (who obviously wasn't playing at the same time as Brady). I think you have to credit the Pats braintrust for knowing when to say goodbye -- they are not a sentimental lot. As much as I like DHall, I cannot imagine that he would have been on the Patriots squad for the last 2-3 years with his injury history, for example.

No doubt JS it's easier to gamble when you know u have 11 wins or so every yr no matter what

McLovin talked about the exact same strategy over and over. That is trading back for more picks. He valued more picks over the "sure thing."

I guess you have to when you take Jones, Cravens, and Doctson in the first three rounds.

Every gm misses and more picks is more chances to get it right.

I still think the hit rate should be higher in the top 3 rounds, or at least not be busts.

Cowboys' Jerry Jones goes all in on calling Greg Hardy a leader

A leader of men. A leader now of Roughriders

You're statement sounds as if you think Cravens, Jones and Doctson were all busts?

Doctson has one FULL year of experience and already led our team in receiving touchdowns... Jones had all the physical tools needed to become a quality starter in the league but lost his heart for the game... And I don't think anybody thought Cravens was a bust before he had that mental freak out.

I agree, the draft is a crapshoot and you want as many shots as you can get. What I don't understand is the all-to-common distain for McCloughan when he did nothing but bring in quality players.

Off the field issues happen, but I'm largely thankful for the work he did here in 2 short years.

(I know McCloughan wasn't your main emphasis on this post, I'm just confused as to why so many people want to point the finger at him when I thought he did a damn fine job...)

Re: Redskins Offseason Thread

As Redskins' Su'a Cravens deals with personal issues, coaches and players are shocked yet supportive

He had wanted to quit at USC. I know everybody was "shocked" but when somebody wants to quit for a second time it shouldn't be a surprise.

I don't believe Doctson has come close to 1st round performance. He has trouble separating and gets manhandled at the line by corners and "can't" run inside routes.

The original point was that the best teams including Mclovin miss and know there is value in having more picks.

I really liked that McLovin had a plan and knew the identity he was pushing the team toward. "Football players" the guys that love football is the only way to go.

I agree it's early to call Doctson a complete bust, and I still have hope he'll turn it around.

But so far, despite his potential and ability to jump, he's been a disappointment, no separation, total absence of will to block, and he dropped sooo many balls... (like pretty much all our receivers this year, but still).
