Washington Redskins hire Jay Gruden as coach - ESPN
Interesting...

Quote:
Gruden has deep ties to numerous members of the organization, which is why he was always considered one of the top favorites for the position. He worked as a Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive assistant for five seasons under general manager Bruce Allen, now the Redskins general manager. Redskins secondary coach Raheem Morris worked with Gruden in Tampa; Redskins tight ends coach Sean McVay worked with Gruden for one year in Tampa and one year in the United Football League. Finally, Gruden served as the offensive coordinator for Jim Haslett in the UFL with the Florida Tuskers.

McVay is expected to become Washington's offensive coordinator under Gruden, while Morris is a candidate to be named the defensive coordinator, according to league sources.

Anyone know who the Bengals FA's are? We are going to get some of them.

Gruden's agent says he is intrigued by RG3. So there's goes that Kirk Cousins riff raff.

Collins and Mays hopefully. Also, I hope he gets Snyder to spend dough on Michael Johnson, assuming we go to 4-3. Him and OSackpo at ends, Kerrigan at LB?

LOL.

Good luck ever topping this tweet, Twitter. RT @Dameshek: This is getting weird. The Browns just hired Mike Tirico's brother as head coach.

Granted it seems I can get around it with Incognito mode in Chrome but still the attempt to use paywall as a revenue stream is absurd. In terms of Redskins related news they weren't even in the top 5. It's beyond me how someone can get to an upper management position and not understand basic concepts concerning the internet. All they see is 'x amount of people read us online so if we charge them we'll be rich.' Sorry I know I'm late to this party but the stupidity of some of these companies is enough to drive me insane.

Anyway Jay Gruden. Good hire. Kind of preferred Wisenhunt but certainly not disappointed with JG. Slightly concerned that most of the staff is already in place. A little bit of deja vu from the Zorn train wreck. Would kind of like to see a switch back to the 4-3 but unfortunately we are very short on traditional linebackers right now, a problem which plagued the Eagles for many years after the death of Johnson.
Where have you been???

Honestly how much can we really blame Haslett. The fact that he was able to do what he did when we won the division in 2012 was nothing short of remarkable, he had no talent to work with. He's shown he can coach defense, $36 million in cap space should help him get some talent to work with.

Michael Johnson and Andrew Hawkins would be good signings. If we pay Orakpo nicely though, Johnson may not be worth it.

I'd pilfer the bolded. Imagine Hawkins and Aldrick Robinson running streaks beside each other...we'd have the fastest WR corps in the league. He'd also make a great returner for us.

A punter named Zoltan? You can't let that once-in-a-lifetime opportunity pass you by.

Overall his schemes were fine with me (with the exception of how he handles opposing TEs, WTF?!), it was the timing of his play-calls. I hope he at least learned some lessons because it always seemed he would have the least clutch call ever when we needed it the most.

Regardless of how our D works out next year, ALL I ASK is better third down defense. We seemed to be great on first and second only to fold on third no matter how far the down-and-distance.

Johnson would be a great pick-up IF we stick with 3-4.

If we move back to a 4-3 as we should, there's no reason to sign him because benching one of the three DEs (Orakpo, Kerrigan, Johnson) would be a waste of money.

I'm on the fence with Haslett sticking around. As long as they keep Keith Burns as ST coach I'll be happy.

At times, the man looked like a genius with the blitzes he came up with. We also forced a lot of TOs (despite not being able to stop anyone).

There's no doubt if he were given a competitive roster, he could do well.

I'd really like to just reset the whole Shanahan era though, including the defense.

No surprise, he's family friends with the inner circle and that's much needed at Redskins Park.

I wish him tons of luck and multiple Super Bowl wins.
