Re: Commanders 2024 NFL Draft Thread

My concern w/ Daniels is will be hold up? And will they protect him? I don't really like Kingsberry's offense because all I saw was a wr heavy offense that didn't seem to put an emphasis on protection or a te. Never saw the QB make checks at the line. Maybe I'm wrong as I did not see a lot of Cards games. But I watched that in season Hard Knocks and just wasn't impressed. Too much college shit w/ just a clap at the line. We have simply got to protect this kid.

Otherwise to me he is a better to much better prospect than Hurts.. or Dak. Just hope they do everything they can make sure he is successful. I really want them to get a complete TE, a true Y, not a tweener which seems to be what we have been drafting.

Agree, stick to the board and if a first round graded player falls to you at 36, take him

Absolutely do not fucking reach for a tackle.

rookie qb.

Not ideal.
At the end of the day all of these guys are not complete QB's. In college a lot of guys are not even asked to read the entire field. What I like is Daniels kept getting a lot better. He is still nowhere near a finished product.

I disagree. Look at Penix Jr - he gets to sit and learn from a good qb and if that good qb who never got injured until last year gets injured again they will have a good rookie in there to take his place.

Not saying we should draft a DT when we already have two good players on big money deals, but I'm not gonna question Peters. You draft the guy you think has the best chance to succeed in the NFL, not the position you need the most. Look at the 2021 qb class - that class has mostly turned out to be ass and even Trevor Lawrence isn't a stud and he's the only one left with his original team.

Note the date - me and Chico agreed on something

I don't want a tackle if all the tackles left are graded terribly. Peters will do what he needs to do to shore the position up. Yes drafting is ideal but it doesn't always work the way you want it to.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sport...nders-offense/

Sam Fortie wrote this article and I have it saved…here is the key part, you want your QB to progress and have success, then you put him under center.

One way to see it is on play-action fakes. Fakes from under center, known as “hard” play-action, generally force linebackers to step up to stop the run more aggressively than “soft” fakes from shotgun, which allow linebackers a split second longer to read the play, letting them stay in passing lanes longer and making the quarterback’s margin for error smaller.
In January, Fox NFL broadcaster Greg Olsen pointed out one common thread among C.J. Stroud, Jordan Love and Brock Purdy, three young quarterbacks who had success last season: Their offensive coordinators made things easier on them by putting them under center on early downs.

I also think there's a huge disconnect from the way teams operate and the way fans think. Every year I see a lot of "we need to take OT/CB/etc with the next pick because it's such a huge need" but what if all the tackles available at our next pick have lower round grades on them? Teams operate by going off their draft board, if you can get a player with a first round value in the 2nd you take them. There is room for an upgrade everywhere on this roster so I'm not concerned about taking a player at a position we already have an established starter.
THIS.
The best players left after round 1 feeding frenzy on offense are defensive players.
We have needs on both sides of the ball and will be able to use almost any player immediately that has 1st round pedigree.
This is why I believe DeJean or Kool Aid will be picked here. Both a position of need, and ready to start. One could make a case at being the best or at least top 3 CB this year. A steal at 36.

Re: Commanders 2024 NFL Draft Thread

I had hoped we would move up to get a top OT prospect. C'est la vie. I agree that one of DeJean or Kool-Aid would be a very likely pick at 36. We would get a starting quality CB which is a need.

Kid is a playmaker and instant offense. Know his arm isn't the strongest velocity wise but it's good enough.

Welcome to DC Jayden Daniels!
.

Another strength that’s not talked about enough. He had the second fewest turnover worthy plays (7) behind Nix (5).

Day 2, I wouldn’t reach for an OT with the first two picks. CB, TE, G, WR should all be in play.

The ATL Pennix thing is pretty wild, just don’t get why you trade for Cousins and then immediately take his replacement instead of grabbing a WR for him

Agreed. Even crazier that Cousins didn't know about it nor did Penix Jr. look thrilled when he got drafted. He is one of the older qbs in the draft. This pick is the most notable surprise to me so far in this draft.

WE NEED LADD!!! Replace Samuels in the slot.

Daniels, McLaurin, Robinson/Ekeler, McConkey, Ertz, Dotson. That's a solid fucking group.

I agree with all this.

We have 8 more picks to use for a Tackle (or two). Maybe they don't start this year, but there no guarantee trading back into the 1st round would get you anything more than what you're going to get in round 3 - unless you were planning on jumping all the way up into the top 15. I'm glad they didn't do that.

I also think it's possible they are ok with starting the season with Lucas and Wylie as the starting Tackles. I know that's not a popular scenario, but it is possible. Either way, there will be many more opportunities for them to shore up the Tackle position between today and September.

BPA moving forward.
