Re: Parkland Shooting

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- A gunman who killed five people Wednesday, including a prominent doctor in South Carolina, was former NFL pro Phillip Adams, who killed himself early Thursday, according to a source who was briefed on the investigation.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak publicly, said Adams' parents live near the doctor's home in Rock Hill, and that he had been treated by the doctor. The source said Adams killed himself after midnight with a .45 caliber weapon. He was 32.

Adams played as a defensive back for multiple teams including the San Francisco 49ers and the Atlanta Falcons after starring at South Carolina State. He also suffered multiple injuries in the NFL, including concussions and a broken left ankle.

The York County Sheriff's Office said it had searched for hours before finding the suspect in a nearby home.

The York County coroner's office said Dr. Robert Lesslie, 70, and his wife, Barbara Lesslie, 69, were pronounced dead at the scene along with grandchildren Adah Lesslie, 9, and Noah Lesslie, 5.

A man who had been working at the home, James Lewis, 38, from Gaston, was found shot to death outside, and a sixth person was hospitalized with "serious gunshot wounds," York County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Trent Faris said.

Re: Parkland Shooting

I believe what I always have, people suffering from mental illness or an mental breakdown shouldn’t have a gun. It’s defining that or how someone enters that grey area along with the stigma of mental illness...how to then remove that constitutional right.

The stories of Boulder, Atlanta and now South Carolina all share this root

Seems you and the NRA don't see eye to eye.

Re: Parkland Shooting

^speed that up from 3 weeks to 1 and I wouldn’t have a problem

Look this is by far the biggest issue:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...e-about-crime/

New evidence confirms what gun rights advocates have said for a long time about crime

They found that in approximately 8 out of 10 cases, the perpetrator was not a lawful gun owner but rather in illegal possession of a weapon that belonged to someone else

If you want to stop gun crime, stop the person from possession of an illegal gun as evidence shows persons with illegal own guns commit gun crimes.

Mandatory 3 year federal sentence for each gun in your possession illegally first offense. 5 year mandatory second offense or a felon in possession of an illegal gun.

This isn’t hard people, but if your not gonna lock up the people who are most likely gonna use an illegal gun immediately then don’t talk gun control cause your not serious about it.

Biden should announce my policy today

I’d take it a step further. Since over 50% of guns used in crimes are stolen have an automatic prison sentence, i let you decide Chico but I demand at least a year, if a gun you owned was used in a crime and not reported stolen prior. We all know “stolen” is just code for given away or lazy gun owner any ways

We actually have a city law here you must report stolen firearms as lazy gun owners who don’t secure are held accountable. Something to thing about

That is good IMO. Obviously my experience shapes my views. I have a younger brother in his mid 30s who has been less than responsible he lives down in Suffolk not sure if this has been implemented down there but wasn't at the time.

Re: Parkland Shooting

Why is 3 weeks too long? It shouldn't be an easy or quick process to get a gun.

Ok 2 week max licensing and 3 year mandatory federal sentence for each illegal gun possessed first and 5 year mandatory second offense?

It’s called working across the aisle. Compromise?

Fine with me. Not a big fan of mandatory sentences, but bottom line is more needs to be done than just background checks.

Deal.

Nice video Matty, that seems like a sensible solution.

Re: Parkland Shooting

12 shot in the Richmond city since Easter. 6 deaths...5 victims 21 years or younger including a 15 year old.

March 27 we had a 13 year old girl shot and killed by a 15 year old boy in the county.

Has the NRA been notified?

Re: Parkland Shooting

What we know about the Uvalde elementary school shooting

When are we going to do something about this?? I already know the answer, as long as the NRA has politicians in their back pocket, nothing will change.
