Re: The Sam Howell Thread
He has definitely shown flashes, dropped some dimes, had some mad scramble plays - he's tough too. However, he hasn't closed the door on the 'do we draft a QB with our first pick' conversation. That's why it's important that he finish the season as the starter. I think I've seen enough to be ok with the new regime picking a QB in the 1st round though, either by staying put, trading up, or trading back. Everything's on the table.

Re: The Sam Howell Thread
I think Terry needs a true On Time passer as his QB , Sam is more of an off schedule QB.

Re: The Sam Howell Thread
Howell has been down by 30 against the Bills, Cowboys and Dolphins and still wasn't getting the ball to Terry. Maybe it has to do with Sam being more off schedule maybe it is because he is more comfortable with other receivers but regardless he has had more garbage time against back ups than JB

Re: The Sam Howell Thread
At the end of the day SH has 3 more games to show what he can do.. If he continues this down trend then he will most likely be replaced next yr

Re: The Sam Howell Thread
The numbers back up the eye test, Sam has regressed the last month or so. We'll see what happens after the season but if he finishes these last 3 games the same way it's almost guaranteed a new staff will go with a new qb.

Don't confuse the above as my saying we shouldn't draft or acquire another QB. I think the new football executives should be alert for opportunities to improve any position. I just think it's way too soon to close the book on Sam's career as an NFL starter, here or elsewhere. |

Agree with this 110 percent. I will add his coaching staff has quit also - not that they were adding to his development before. He has zero home field advantage and zero run game. |

The pressure he has faced would make Andre the Giant timid. |

Re: The Sam Howell Thread
He's faced the same pressure all year - he was handling it better until the last month or so.
I think the decision would be much tougher if he hadn't played so terribly the last 2-3 weeks. He needs to make some plays these last 3 weeks otherwise new staff is going to move on.

Howell doesn't get the ball downfield with any accuracy. Sure he has a good arm but can he see the whole field? His 2 longest receptions are to RBs on broken plays. 500+ pass attempts, Howell did not complete a 40+ yard reception to Terry or Jahan. If I'm game planning for Howell, Damn near all passes are under 20 yards. I'm going to make him beat me over the top. That's why Brissett made the long pass look easy. They didn't game plan for anything deep and left the corner without help. Sam needs to go out swinging against the Jets. Considering how well guys like Flacco and Mayfield are playing, Sam Howell is looking like a practice squad player right now. He needs to put up big plays to stay relevant. 5th round picks don't get to suck for this long. |

Re: The Sam Howell Thread
Agreed. It shouldn't be nailed on we draft a QB or don't, it'll be the new regimes decision in any case. But giving up on SH based on just the last 6 games with this team is short-sighted.

Re: The Sam Howell Thread
While the season has been a disaster I don't think it's fair to say the coaches have quit. EB especially wants to put good tape out there with the offense for whatever his next opportunity is.
