Do not know much about Jackson. Just wondering why the Bengals didn't re sign him?

Re: WFT Free Agency

So far a good FA. Fitz is a solid signing (league average player) at a decent price (below league average value) for a QB #1. He is a RR character guy and at the same time a signing that Dan will eat up. It prevents pressure for reaching for a QB with #19 pick and now gives far more options in the draft. IMO they did what needs to be done.

Like the Jackson signing a lot. Solid price but in 2 years when cap bounces back up we have a CB1 at a CB2 price.

He may not have wanted to stay there, the team is rebuilding and at age 28 I'm sure he wants to compete

Bengals doing Bengals things, they don't like to pay anyone, and maybe he was interested in staying

Re: WFT Free Agency

Bengals chose to sign a decent slot CB but then went with a much lesser talent CB Chidobe Awuzie...ole cowboys cb. They went for the cheaper option

Re: WFT Free Agency

Being able to leave our new corner one on one with the best receiver allows us to be even more aggressive in scheme especially on 3rd down.

Eh I guess the coaches saw something in him last year when we signed him.. Hopefully he is just a training camp body.

1. We are paying Collins $16.9M, Fuller $13M, Jackson $14M. Jackson's annual average included since contract deals not available, first year number may be lower, but basically, $44M on 3 players in secondary, and probably closer to $48 when depth players counted, and possibly whoever we sign at FS. That is 25% of our cap. For that kind of money, you would expect one absolute superstar like Jalen Ramsey, and one of the most dominant secondaries in NFL. Especially with one of best DLs in NFL in front of it. Jesus was Collins signing horrible, he is almost certainly a goner after this year.

2. We are also spending $44M+ on OL this year, for which you would expect elite unit, ours is not. About $90M on OL and DBs, about half of cap, with a gaping hole still at FS and no long term LT. That leaves other half of cap for QB,WR,RB,TE,DL,LB,ST.

3. Wanna see how to build OL properly, look at Niners. Two stud Ts and a stud C. Don't like older players, but they at least understand the basics. Don't see any $20M guards on their roster.

4. Moves you would expect later part of FA. Signing someone at FS. Adding a WR. Adding a LB. We find three value signings those positions, has been a competent if not stellar FA.

5. Very interesting to think about a defense heavy draft. Not advocating it, but interesting to ponder. We drafted a FS, a CB, two LBs, with higher picks, our D would be scary good. Or FS,CB,LB, and perhaps one more modest big LB signing. Shallow draft for FS and S, so expect us to sign a FS, maybe draft long term answer next year? Or sleeper later? Moehrig at #19? As of now, you don't have to guess where teams will be attacking our D, middle of field underneath and 3+ WR sets to expose our FS, or deeeeeeeeep. With a true 1-high safety, this D could be unbelieveable.
1. Collins will be cut after June 1st, saving 8M in cap -agree that was a horrible signing.

2. Build and pay the trenches. That is a winning strategy. Our DL is 38M which is less than half the league.

3. Hmmm. Do you still want to throw in SF. 49ers make Trent Williams highest-paid OL with 6-year, $138M deal

Stud players (Scherff and TW are both studs) cost.

- and as for positional spending our QB room is 17th even with Fitzpatrick. Which affords us considerable cap space relative to the rest of the league. Bring in a rookie, have a good competion and sort out who is best short term and long term. If none are then you rinse and repeat next year.
We are 15th in defense spending and 19th in offense spending. In other words the FO is building a balanced team. Maybe one position is a little high or a little low but I think it shows they have a comprehensive plan for a long term success.

Re: WFT Free Agency

Washington's updated cap space after Fitzpatrick and Jackson III signings: $27.1M

Fitz's 2021 cap hit: $9.94M
WJ3's 2021 cap hit: $6.66M

Re: WFT Free Agency

Actually it is $21.3m after the Jackson signing.... we can extend Scherr and Jon Allen and save a further $13m, so no need to panic yet...... as for the size of Jacksons deal it probably allows them to jettison/extend him before year 3 so money is available for Terry McL.... or it expires after 3 years when we will need money for Montez and Chase... though by then the cap should have skyrocketed

They don't even need to wait, he could be designated as a post-June 1st cut today and it would apply. Wish they'd do it now because the longer it doesn't happen the more I believe he's staying which makes no sense with Kam Curl being the younger, better, and cheaper option.
