Re: The Gud, the bad and the Great. Eagles Post Game Reactions

Who else was waiting for a flag or for a review after Garcons TD catch? Who else was sure that with 26 seconds left on the clock and three timeouts that they were going to complete one or two long passes and move rite into fg range. I was the only Skins fan in the bar and it was mostly Giants fans. The bartender was a Birds fan. Every Giants fan was rooting for us and when we scored they were like "dude u won!" High fives. Etc.
I just kept saying no I watch us every week there has to be zero's on that clock. I was nervous as hell until our second sack.

Culliver suffered the injury, which head coach Jay Gruden described as knee inflammation, on Wednesday and did not practice on Thursday and Friday.

“It’s an impact whether they threw a hitch route, a deep ball route, anything” Culliver said. “You see me in practice, so I was just battling through injuries and just trying to play for my team and one another. There’s people out here 10, 11, 12 years in. I’m trying to win and help my team win regardless of whatever that takes. If I don’t have one leg out there, if I can go and try to compete the best way I can and the organization behind me, then our decision is to go play ball.”

By playing through the injury, defensive end Ricky Jean Francois felt Culliver set “a standard around here now, a brand new standard” in the Redskins’ locker room.

“Just over previous years hearing about this team and just knowing all the things everybody trashed us about, ‘This person could’ve played, or this person couldn’t play,’ ” Jean Francois said. “Hands down, this dude said he was injured, but he didn’t say he wouldn’t be able to play. That wasn’t an upstairs decision. It wasn’t no GM, no coaches – it was his decision and he wanted to be out there with his teammates that he goes blood, sweat and tears with. That was us he wanted to bang with, and he did just that and helped us get the ‘W.’ ”

Culliver was big time for playing...lotta heart and leadership. Guys like him and Trent last year playing with injuries, whole lotta respect.

Culliver will need help against Julio on deep routes. Culliver played the short stuff well this past week.

Is Jarrett officially the new nickle CB?

I saw on ESPN where he also may have an ankle injury and possible torn MCL??

Schefty says sprained MCL. Though concussion is a bigger deal IMO.

Id bet a ton of money Reed is the guy "everybody" talked about not playing when he could have. Not a good look.

Yeah I guess technically you can say the run game wasn't working. But like you mentioned the Iggles were still forced to respect play action and the run game controlled the clock.

Maybe i'm striving for too fine/esoteric a distinction for an internet message board...but for me the run game was working. It may not have gained huge yards per carry but it was effective and helped us win the game.

Reed clearly has a reoccurring issue with concussions and that IMO should be a career ender. Frankly for the sake of his future he should probably not be in the NFL.
It is Reed's fourth documented concussion since his days at the University of Florida. One in 2013, his rookie year, cost Reed the final six games of that season. It is one thing where you get some mild concussions that costs you a game or two, but to miss six weeks, that must have been really bad....and he continues to get them. That is really bad.
I hope he is ok and do not mean to sound uncaring about his health.
But we need to move on from him, he will never be healthy for any length of time and this type of head trauma injury/condition only gets worse, not better. You become more susceptible to concussions.

We should move on from Reed.
I hope next years draft is TE heavy.

The one he has in 2013 must have been real bad. Apparently he had insomnia and it lingered for a real long time. I agree, the Redskins need to find a replacement. Reed seriously needs to consider his future.

Well we would have Paul coming back next year. But I would think that we have to draft someone.

Look 125 yards rushing for a game is a success...
The reason the Eagles defense looked tired was us controling the clock running the ball.
Agree.

I thought Jay had his best game yesterday. Maybe so far in his tenure. Loved the boots and taking shots down the field. I thought the draw on 3rd and long shows growth. Stuck with the run. I saw good reads by Kirk and Gruden gave him easy throws. Getting Crowder involved in the passing game was maybe the best call by Gruden this year. Garcon/Crowder were a solid combo.

I really hope Desean can get his ass back on the field soon.
Same. Even though imo Jay still hasn't fully embraced this team's identity (speculation based on him still getting away from or choosing to run in certain circumstances) we're on the path to success and the gameplan and playcalling is getting better.

Jay is gonna be tested with how he handles the injuries to Cully and Reed heading into this game though.

I LOVED to see an effort of getting the ball to imo our best skill position players...Alf and Pierre. I would like to see that focus start early but loved seeing that focus in crunch time. I have been critical of Garcon because imo he needs help through scheme (isn't great against press, doesn't gain clear separation and isn't good downfield high pointing the ball) BUT when through the help of scheme he gets open he's tough as nails and sure handed and is a strong runner after the catch. I would like to see him targeted more and earlier.

Alf is just a stud in my eyes. Dude almost never goes down with first contact. The OL struggled vs the Iggles but Alfred just plugs away, grinding out the tough yards sometimes through his on effort. Then we take him out on the goalline (effing hate that!). Anyhow games like the Iggles are what makes Alf the best back in a good backfield. Alf inside runs, Jones outside runs, CT shifty-speed runs.

Playcalling/Gameplan- J remains heavy handed/imbalanced towards the run on 1st down and imo that predictability has a negative impact on 1st down run success rate. I would like to trade some 1st down runs for 2nd down runs in an effort to achieve greater overall balance and therefore unpredictability. Also, 1st down passes don't have to be full-play action. I'm going into game theory here but..... if we use more "pass" formations i.e. spread/shotgun or spread/pistol formation on 1st downs as opposed to standard base personnel formations (i.e. show run and run formations) then it would give more overall disguise to the offense. If we use our "base" runs come from the same formations as our "base" pass game then overall the offense is better. But I digress...Would like to see more runs on 2nd down. We don't do it enough.

Liked seeing Crowder out there too, for all the love Ryan gets Crowder seems to be showing more production more quickly.

Playing every defensive snap, Jarrett allowed three catches on seven targets for 23 yards. While his work in the passing game was very good, it was Jarrett’s work in run support that was impressive for a rookie corner; Jarrett had two stops in the run game on 17 run plays. If Jarrett is able to preform at a good level verse the run and pass, Washington should do well against teams that want to run outside."
Cully played with heart, but it was clear the guy couldn't run long/deep. If he doesn't get better I'm not sure I would play him. Kyle will obviously attack him if he's out there.

Jarrett is kicking tail, especially considered where was drafted. I wonder if Jarrett could start on the outside CB if Cully can't go?

Take away the 42 yard run by CT and we averaged under 3 ypc. We ran just enough to keep their d honest and we moved the ball consistently with the pass. Stop the abandoned the run talk. It wasnt working.
