I'm not convinced the Redskins reached on Murphy, because I don't know if other teams were looking to pick him in that range. There's a pretty good chance they were.

Murphy was a top 100 player for me, so taking him on the second day isn't a terrible overdraft, given that 100-ish players go on the first two days.

It wasn't just Sam that teams were shying away from. A lot of 'Tweener types got pushed down the board. I don't know if Murphy was able to avoid the 'Tweener label, but he didn't get pushed down the board for whatever reason. Some very similar players (including ones in my top 100) who got the label got pushed all the way down to the end of the third day.

Why are some people disappointed on Murphy when all he does is make plays.

all some people do is look at the 40 time, most people do not know Murphy had virtually the same time as Mack and Barr in the 10 yard dash

and Murphy was quicker than Barr and Mack in the 3 cone drill.

I am not saying he is better than Mack, and Barr, just that he is a decent athlete who as you said has a history of being productive. Work-out warriors get you fired....

Once he gets on the field I think fans will love him because of his hustle and motor.

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy

Murphy is a football player. By that I mean he knows how to play the game. He was an exceptionally productive college player.

What about all of those pass deflections and interceptions? Those are big plays.

He also has long arms and the largest hands of anyone who attended the combine. You can see how that helps him in his highlight reel. Once he gets his hands on a ball carrier or QB, that man is going down.

I read that he could use some more upper body development. The strength coaches will make sure he gets bigger and much stronger. Once he accomplishes that and gets some NFL experience, he could be a beast.

The only reason that I wasn't so happy when the Redskins picked him is that I wanted them to take Morgan Moses in that spot. Once they lucked out and got Moses in the third round, I was fine with the overall result because I would have had no problem with their taking Trent in the third round.

Sums up my feelings exactly.

Murph is a worker, an attitude player. He could have an impact on the rest of his teammates in helping create an identity and culture that this will be a rough, physical, tough front seven.

Sounds like his father did a great job of instilling a sense of heroic effort in him. Looking forward to seeing his first sack (of many).

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy

Murphy is the kind of player that will make other players work harder. He will stay late working on his craft other players vets included will see this and stay too. Reed was that player last year, staying late working with the jug machine and on his route running.

He's the type of 'glue' player we haven't had in a while. A guy who is just mean and nasty but smart as well. He's going to allow the defense to be creative. Imagine a nickel pass rush with Rak, Hatcher, Kerrigan, Murphy. That's the goal, rush with 4 - cover with 7.

Seems pretty clear the offseason strategy to fix the pass defense was to focus our resources on getting to the QB. Franchise Rak, sign Hatcher, draft the 2013 NCAA sack leader. That's one reason why draft grades are so dumb. They don't account for offseason strategy and planned fits.

2 positions I'm kinda glad we didn't draft at ILB and Safety. First, those 2 positions weren't deep in the draft. With tjax and Robinson coming back from injury, we shouldn't be bad from a depth perspective.

The only area going into the offseason/ camp where I'm nervous is TE. Not a whole lot there. I wonder if Bruce and jay are satisfied with that part of the roster. Gotta feeling we will be watching cuts and waiver wire a lot in the coming months.
