Re: Raheem Morris to the Redskins
Is that him or his players' fault? They were good before...then as soon as the get some injuries and some adversity they fold up? It certainly could be that he didn't do a good job or it could be that the players are young and nothing he did would have changed it.

Re: Raheem Morris to the Redskins
I'm concerned that Morris might be a bit out of his element, coaching up d-backs in a 3-4. However, he's a smart enough guy to figure that out. What concerns me more is the idea that he might be hired to eventually replace Haslett if Haslett leaves for a HC position. That would be a return to typical Redskins FO bull****. Completely turning around the direction of the team by enacting a 3-4 defense, spend a couple of years drafting, signing and developing players to fit into it, and then going back on it after a short period of time.
As I said, that's what concerns me about the Morris hire. Ideally though, the Skins hired him to be nothing more than a dbacks coach, which is the impression I get when reading about it. He was promised by Shanahan that he can look for D-Coordinator positions next season. The impression I get is that the Skins aren't interested in Morris ever being anything more than a positions coach, which is the best position they can take. |

Re: Raheem Morris to the Redskins
Whether you run a 3-4 or a 4-3, what goes on in the secondary doesn't change. The alignment you run only impacts the front seven.

LOL. A few weeks ago I was talking with my sister about the same thing. We're both in our 40's and were talking about the younger fans and how much we feel bad for them. They don't know what it use to be like around here...where you actually felt apart of something special.

The d-back responsibilities in a 3-4 defense are certainly different. They play more zone, are more responsible for outside run games, have substantially more coordinating with linebackers in multiple receiver threats, etc. Of course, I'm not telling you anything you don't already know. |

News to me. I'm just going off what we've asked guys like Reed Doughty in the past. He said the differences were minimal for the secondary. Quote:

Morris and the rest of the coaching staff have to own a significant part of the collapse of the team - - the part that is over and above a mere regression.

And DBs helping run support is universal. Antoine Winfield is a cover 2 corner who plays in a 4-3, and his role in run support is well-noted.

......how old is Rhonda Barber? So you can't blame a young head coach for not coaching his own players???

Re: Raheem Morris to the Redskins
For me it boils down to whom I would rather have: Morris, or Jackson? I'd rather have Morris, because I think his experience leading 53 guys for 3 seasons will make the transition to coaching 10 or so guys a lot easier. Plus he has a good argument for being a position coach, just not a head coach. People say our secondary really wasn't that much of a problem last year, but I remember it letting us down in key moments and also all the big time quarterbacks that carved us up. I was in "wait and see" mode in regards to their personnel decisions at the start of the season, but they failed once again in those regards. I trust Raheem Morris to find guys that he thinks will excel in what he wants his db's to do, because as has been said, finding talent wasn't his problem, it was how he communicated with that talent in order to get them to do what he wanted. And it should be easier with 10 guys instead of an entire locker room.

Re: Raheem Morris to the Redskins
Maybe it's one of Tiki's twin daughters that his ex-wife had after he dumped her for that 23 year old model?
