Holder to call for scaled-back mandatory minimum sentences - CNN.com

This is really good news, but with Holder, actions will speak louder than words. Mandatory mininums are garbage and part of the problem with the justice system. The application of how laws are enforced is the the next step imo, the enforcement is based on race and a word we never use but certainly should more often, class.

Holder, imo, has probably been the worst of the entire Obama administration. He's been a really horrible Attorny General. Lying, inconsistent, and def not transparent with his department's actions.

Its good to see some leadership on such a tough issue, but we need to do more. This is a good first step.

The guidance instead speaks to prioritization of federal resources and lists eight federal priorities that prosecutors should consider when deciding whether to undertake a prosecution. They are:

• Preventing marijuana distribution to minors

• Preventing money from sales from going to criminal groups

• Preventing the diversion of marijuana from states where it is legal to states where it is illegal

• Preventing criminal groups from using state laws as cover for trafficking of other illegal drugs

• Preventing violence and the use of illegal firearms

• Preventing drugged driving

• Preventing the growing of marijuana on public lands

• Preventing marijuana possession or use on federal property

Most of these things are appropriate regulation even once it get legalized

I always figured they would start to ease up on this stuff in O's second term. Just paving the way for full scale legalization in the next 5-10 years.
