Re: Haynesworth might learn a few things about Shanahan from Plummer
What makes a selfish D-Tackle "Fatal"? If they choose to dump him this year it isn't setting them back to a point that they can't recover from. They were 4-12 with Albert. I would be willing to bet a lot of money that they would finish above that with or without Phat Albert.

Re: Haynesworth might learn a few things about Shanahan from Plummer
The dumbass wants to be shopped around, that is why he is doing this. He doesn't like the 3-4 set up or just doesn't want to work at it or probably both. I say shop the hell out of him for multiple mid rounders. I say midrounders because folks are not going to want to get screwed by giving us a first rounder plus getting stuck with his heavy ass contract. Why does he need to work with an individual trainer? I think the drills should be enough to get him in shape. Doesn't he like his teammates?

Re: Haynesworth might learn a few things about Shanahan from Plummer
I just feel like for the past decade, players could kind of do what they want. Phillip Daniels alluded to it in the off season when he said if people were working harder, they probably would have won a few more games.
This kind of attitude is necessary for right now; the players have been able to do whatever they want. What was Zorn going to do to Portis? Nothing. Now, this means that every position has competition and that you need to show up and do things or you aren't going to get playing time. I think this begins to build that work ethic that is important to win close games. I believe this with McNabb's work ethic will really change the culture. |

I was looking over some memories past and came across this pretty good estimation of the Haynesworth signing. Posted on 02/28/09 right after the news of the signing took place.
Ade Jimoh FC is a soothsayer...well done: Quote:

Re: Haynesworth might learn a few things about Shanahan from Plummer
After reading all the posts on this topic I have concluded that no matter what is said no one is going to change the other camps view on Big Al. Its kinda like liver, you either really really love it or you really really hate it. That said, I'm glad Al is playing for the Skin's. If for no other reason than what he did when DeAngelo Hall was tossed to the ground like a rag doll, by his facemask, by the gnitts Jacobs last year. Big Al was right there, right then, mixing it up with the perps, in the defense of his team mate. Don't get me wrong, I don't want football to turn into hockey or nascar where everyone goes to see the fights/crashes, however there is a time and a place to standup for your team and your mates and I think he has done both. I really can't remember the last time I have seen that. I know it has happened.... but I just can't remember when.....
Ok, I'm the newbie so I'll shutup now and go sit quietly in the corner. Last edited by KC625; 04-12-2010 at 05:23 AM. |

Welcome to the board KC. That's a feeble reason to like someone. I get the whole sense of team that is shown when someone does that but to have $41M obligated to this player as a centerpiece of your competitive team and not see that equal impact on the field, or off, is distressing to say the least. Not you specifically, but when some fans talk Redskins or football solutions, a lot of general machismo adages come up. Like a cure-all for the team can be verbally massaged with a pep-talk by a drill sargent with the masculinity of Chuck Norris. A lot of "We need a coach to yell in their face/get angry" and "This team needs to punch the other guy in the mouth". As great as those suggestions may seem it just dilutes what should be the focus of our team...our scheme. No tough words or phrases...no punches in the mouth or kicks in the ass...just trusting a coach to implement a scheme and sticking to that trusted coaches program for an appropriate duration of time. Once we commit to "building" toward a uniform direction for more than a House of Representatives term we'll see competitive progress. As fans, we shouldn't let the numerous Clint Eastwood/Schwarzenegger one liners cloud what is really important.

Re: Haynesworth might learn a few things about Shanahan from Plummer
Thanks for the welcome Skinny. I apoligize, I should have made my opinion more clear. It isn't the ONLY reason that I like having AH as part of the team, there are many reasons but most have been posted here already, ad naseum. I guess I should have said "in addition to what has already been said "
Live and learn.... And I don't think my opinion was "feeble". I didn't imply that anyone needs to scream like a drill instructor or kick someones butt. What I like seeing is someone who has some fire in his gut and stands up for his team, instead of a bunch of prima donnas playing just hard enough to collect a paycheck, and some not even playing THAT hard and are STILL collecting a fat paycheck (Hint, one of them is "I don't do preseason", second hint, intials CP) Last edited by KC625; 04-12-2010 at 06:18 AM. |

What about coaches who let themselves be made a fool of so they can secure their paycheck for the year...lol. Both that reason and the fact that we're even uttering AH's name shows wherein lies the competitive problems our franchise has suffered.

Re: Haynesworth might learn a few things about Shanahan from Plummer
Like the majority of posters I am siding with Shanahan here, if for no other reason than to support in the broadest terms the general change in discipline and atmosphere at Redskins Park that, needed for so long, Shanahan's arrival appears to be precipitating.
BUT, for some reason there exists a tendency amongst Redskins fans to severely underrate the impact that Haynesworth had on this team last season. Yes, he appeared to get injured several times a game, he huffed and puffed and didn't always seem in optimum shape, and he certainly came off poorly when criticizing Blache's defensive scheme in the media, in particularly uncharitable terms. Nevertheless, when on the field and firing on all cylinders he was every bit the disruptive, menacing force we paid for. It's not a coincidence that Carter and Orakpo both hit double-digit sacks for the year, Carter resurrecting a career that had seemed on the wrong side of done only a season prior. AH might not be a guy I would choose to have a beer with; and in the end, he might not be a guy the new regime feels it can work with. Fine. But what is so headscratching is the perception - perpetuated by both the media and fans - that he was a bust for us last season. Albert played like one of the best DT's in the league last year. |
