Re: UPDATE: Portis Will Not Be Changing To #21

"Time after time I always told you all that he was the best player I've ever seen," Portis said. "For me to put that jersey on, I can't live up to those expectations. I can't be Sean Taylor, so I wouldn't even try."

I think after hearing Clinton's reasons for not wearing 21 I respect him even more than I did when I heard he was going to.

one thing i'd like to see is the "21" in the middle of the field instead of the redskins logo for at least this upcoming game.
I'd also like to see it be retired.

Understandable...but I would have liked to see 21 tearing it up again...

I'd like to see it retired, seeing someone wear 21 again would bring back some good memories but it would also bring back some bad ones, namely the way he died.

Good for him. I would have been just fine with it if he had worn 21, but hearing his reasons for not, I respect the hell outta that. Man that's gonna be an emotional game. I teared up during the Dal-GB game tonight when they did the moment of silence. I can't wait for Sunday.

I think that's actually a really smart move on CP's part - shows some real wisdom, maturity and class.

You've got to figure how it would look as a tribute if CP goes down with an injury, or fumbles or has a really bad game. I think he's better off, like he said, not trying to be #21 and not trying to be someone he's not.

A real tribute would be for everyone to go play their hearts out for the rest of the season.

I'm still all for retiring #21. Honestly I think the patches and stickers on the helmets are a nice idea, but it's also a little weak if that's all they do.

One of your best friends, your brother, your teammate who played his heart out for the team, dies while protecting his family and all we can do is wear a sticker with his number???

Good idea for putting the #21 in the middle of the field, they should totally think about that.

CP and the skins could do whatever they want to do and i'd have no problem w/ it.

I wouldn't mind seeing #21 painted on the field though.

I think in his heart CP wanted to do this. It was a great idea, and it took on a life of its own. In hindsight, I would have kept it under the radar and stretched an warmed up in my regular jersey, and made a quick switch before kickoff. Goodell is way to protective of the shield and uniformity. Best believe that someone from the league office put a bug in his ear and "suggested" that he quell this. I do love his response and intent regardless. Through times of hardship - true friend will always show his worth.

Yeah I liked his rationale for not wearing #21.

Either way, whatever he wanted to do would have been fine with me.

I think that CP may have also been afraid of having a bad game while wearing the #21. I don't think that would happen but if it did CP would feel even worse than he does now. When you honor someone you want to make sure that you do so in a good way and if the Bill's (which again I don't think they would) happen to shut CP down he would have a very hard time with that.
