Re: Baltimore riots

My next door neighbor is an FF here in Collier County, Fl
Many if not most have another occupation on the side as it is to hard to make it on F-mans pay. They get pretty good medical and other bennies (county emps) but the county has been making noises about cutting bennies and retirement perks as a budget cutting move. It is prompting many including my NDN to start looking for another occupation........

Re: Baltimore riots

A seperate note. I am sitting in a pizza hut in Ellicott city. Near me are two tables full of people celebrating the end of a girls basketballcs team season. A lot of laughing happy people everyone singing happy birthday to one of the adults. Its a very happy scene.

Why do I bring it up? You may have guessed. Its a group of 40 people, blacks whites Indians and they all are in harmony. Just makes me sad that so much strife exists over race.

Re: Baltimore riots

First there was Ferguson, then NYC, now Baltimore. You would think we would learn from those. Guess not?!

The Baltimore Sun

I think its finally time to admit the Mayor, PD, and the entire administration has loss control of the city.

My question is why are so many folks dying up there?

Drugs, easy availability of illegal firearms, a police force under siege, corrupt local officials, destruction of the local middle class ...

It goes deep and requires hard honest answers/conversations from/between the police and African-American community, the African-American and white community, and all holding the powers that be accountable for the systemic corruption in all departments/divisions of the City's government.

In other words, it's going to continue to get worse.

Re: Baltimore riots

As you well know, these are not unique problems, but are rather commonplace in many large cities in this country. One event away from a Bmore repeat.
BUT, while I agree with J about the "Honest" conversations that need to held. I would be......charitable if I said, that level of honesty does not exist in our leadership nor does anybody want to hear it at this time.....or in the foreseeable future.

Maybe we need to remember the names of these victims, 43 known in May, as much as we remember the name Freddie Gray. Make a big deal about this. It's not everyone that's shooting and looting, it sounds like criminals. (I wonder how many cases are self-defense.) Thought black lives mattered, even when it's criminals not cops doing the killing.

Re: Baltimore riots

Baltimore seeks more federal aid in face of murder surge

Baltimore ... I dont think you are going to get all the special Federal and State grants and aides you have become dependent on. Fed govt is tightening up. The Mayor has publicly criticized the new Md Gov Hogan who already has pulled back earmarked State funding. He did give balt something like 20 mil from the states rainy day fund.

Now the Police Union wants to investigate the chain of command during the riots. im guessing to hit back at the mayor and State Atty office. Showing that the officers were put out to serve as nothing more than pinattas and target practice for 13 year old w rocks. then the union can claim a boat load more in workers comp and early pensions for all the officers that dont want to return to the force anyway. might as well get paid going out the door and take er easy for year or so on the balt city dime. at this point i dont blame them.

Mosby now doesnt want anything disclosed to the media to not taint the trial or perceptions ..... of course she requested the gag order right after she gave her one sided red meat "press conference" .....

she is also going to be a ring leader for the circus coming to town. true story.

get your face and name out there by any means necessary.

some teenagers just randomly decided to throw rocks at my lady and our 3 year old daughter on saturday. when i confronted them they ran to the housing project Perkins Homes.

so yeaaaaahhhhh .... go baltimore!!!

Re: Baltimore riots

Documentary captures Baltimore's pain, inspires hope

Need more stories about these killings, and work on preventing them. And no I am not saying just play the blame game towards black residents, the way the blame game has in fact been played against police and whites in general. Work on solutions, like bringing in businesses (jobs) and rec centers (that actually provide alternatives to gangs), and I'm sure many other initiatives I don't know off the top of my head.

Re: Baltimore riots

Maryland governor Larry Hogan approved plans to build the Purple Line, a $168 million train line that spans 16 miles from Bethesda to New Carrollton.

He also announced the killing of a project for the Red Line, which would connect east and west Baltimore and cost over $2 billion.

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake wasn’t very happy when she heard about Hogan’s plans to discontinue the Red Line project.

Larry Hogan approves Purple Line, Baltimore is pissed | Baltimore Sun Times

So it begins.

New Republican governor is cutting and diverting funds for Baltimore City any chance he gets. First education, now transportation.

Not sure how I feel about this. Balt City disproportionately received State and Federal aid to stay afloat and I think they have taken all those life lines for granted and squandered it with corruption and incompetence.

But is Gov Hogan just going to let all of Baltimore City go down the drain? Seems like it.

His tense relationship with mayor SRB is not good. It is only going to gt worse bc SRB keeps making negative public comments about him.

Re: Baltimore riots

Riot-hit Baltimore plans to spend $136 million on recreation centers

in 2011 mayor SRB commission suggested consolidating the city rec centers to save some money.

now they are going to sell 4 parking garages to open more rec centers ... bc they think the disgruntled middle and high schoolers who did "the purge" dont have enough positive outlets.

the city rec centers are good ideas imo. the patterson park pool is awesome at $3 per. there is also a small pool a block away near perkins holmes which seems to be closed a lot more than open. i understand this is not meant as a end-all solution but i dont think it will have any effect at all. the kids will just leave the pool area and throw rocks at my 3 yr old daughter anyway. i dont think the lack of positive options was what made them throw rocks at a 3 yr old. i think their sense of entitlement, acting out bc they have depressiona nd anger all around them and the mentality of "fuck white people" was the main cause.

idk .. the idea of a one time sale of parking garages that I assume generates revenue to fund more rec centers after a commission found they should be closing some rec centers seems ...... reactionary and short sighted. rob 2016 and beyond to pay for 2015.
