It's a well documented fact that you can't just flip 4-3 personnel into an effective 3-4 defense and vice versa. The whole notion of 'Top 10' is kinda false anyways. We had a 'Top 10' defense in 2009 that couldn't create turnovers or keep points off the scoreboard. The defense was filled with aging, unproductive players but because we allowed fewer yards than other teams we were a 'Top 10 defense' but largely ineffective.

Not to defend Haslett specifically because I think many of his schemes are flawed and put players in positions to fail but our defense and defensive personnel is much better than it was pre-Haslett.
crazy how that works. And when you cant flip it, blame it on D Hall or Obama.

The vast majority of defenses transitioning from 40 fronts to 30 fronts improved in year one. The Redskins were in the minority in that they declined.

Agree on the top ten. If you throw out the worst single game performance by the 2009 defense, and then throw out the Monday Night Massacre in 2010, they have pretty similar numbers overall. It was the same story each season: Fletcher can handle the run, but the secondary is too leaky and even the worst quarterbacks have good days.
