Re: Has Anyone Else Completely Lost Faith In The Government?

So around the same time the goverment was bashing buisnesses for having expensive trips we find out the IRS was doing the same thing.

Already heavily criticized for targeting conservative groups, the Internal Revenue Service absorbed another blow Tuesday as new details emerged about senior officials enjoying luxury hotel rooms, free drinks and free food at a $4.1 million training conference. It was one of many expensive gatherings the agency held for employees over a three-year period.

One top official stayed five nights in a room that regularly goes for $3,500 a night. Another official, Faris Fink, stayed four nights in a room that regularly goes for $1,499.

Fink was later promoted to head the IRS division that staged the 2010 conference in Anaheim, Calif., a position he still holds. He also has the distinction of playing Mr. Spock in a cheesy but slickly-produced "Star Trek" video that IRS employees filmed for the conference.

A total of 132 IRS officials received room upgrades at the conference, according to a report by J. Russell George, the Treasury Department inspector general for tax administration. The tax agency paid a flat daily fee of $135 per hotel room, the report said, but the upgrades were part of a package deal that added to the overall cost of the conference.

Getting hotel rooms for $135 a night that typically go for substantially more is not rare. I've stayed in rooms that typically go for 300-450 a night for the government rate. You call, say you want a room but must pay gov't rate and most hotels give it to you (provided you're on travel).

Read what it said. They stayed in very expensive rooms which jacked up the across the board cost per room. Seems someone had the hotel charge an even amount per room increasing each rooms cost so they could stay in these rooms. With everything else we are learning about how the IRS is spending tax payers money this is no surprise.

Government always requires that you give the "best rate available" if you are on their GSA contract, but then they throw a ton of requirements in your way that most customers don't when you provide the services. If their money wasn't good, they would be an absolutely lousy customer!

Not sure if this should go under stupid liberal gun nuts or here under stupid liberal goverment schools run by stupid liberals that use no common sense.

Make sure you read to the end where they talk about investigating a 5 yr old kid for 2 hours over a cap gun until he wet his pants.

What an idiot. The reason our economy is so damn beast and runs the effing world is the education of woman and their production in the workplace. If only the rest of the world would figure out gender equality and the education of woman leads to higher standards of livings.

Well if you look at the changes in kids and the decline in our education system and families they start about the same time mothers went to work leaving raising our kids to schools and daycare. If people think replacing the parents with schools and day care is better then I would have to say they are crazy. There is more to the issue but it is a factor along with other issues.

Kids have always been kids. criminals have always been criminals, there has always been poor, rich, smart, stupid etc... This is another interesting topic entirely. But just because a time period has changed doesnt mean we have, just a criteria of how we define and how the world has evolved around those born into it.

Our education has fallen behind, not because of women.

This appears to be the quote. I am curious why you think he is blaming women......
Or is it that you think both parents working outside the home is a good thing for kids?
We are not falling behind educationally to the rest of the world?
AND a host of other ills, probably accurately laid at the feet of no parents at home......

Bryant was participating in a Washington Post Live event focused on the importance of ensuring that children read well by the end of third grade. In response to a question about how America became "so mediocre" in regard to educational outcomes, he said: "I think both parents started working. The mom got in the work place."

Is it the fault of women? Of course not. Does it coincide with the advent of both parents working outside the home (or single parents that work)?
Probably.

Maybe to their credit it is. When they are home and can spend more time with the kids doing homework etc... they probably are better prepared and do better in school. Just for the record I'm talking earlier years of a child when they need the guidance most. I understand some families need two incomes but I see alot of families that seem to just want more things while passing alot of the raising of their children off to strangers. You could also turn this around and say just having one of the parents home for the children would make a difference not just mom.

This is not a knock on two income families I understand how hard it is now days but I do think its has an affect on children. Some more so then others.

My "beloved" governor could look at education funding cuts which he championed as a reason for educational decline...but why do that when you can just blame women?

He is the same person who, when a referendum to grant personhood to fertilized eggs was shot down, compared those who voted against the referendum with Satan. Like many Republicans, he is no friend of women.
