Re: Around the NFL - 2023 Offseason Thread

I can see Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Jalen Hurts, Kirk Cousins, and Justin Herbert as possibilities to overtake him...but some of those are maybes...

Tranny Dimes threw 15 TD last year in 16 games…Henike threw 12 in 9 games.

I just honestly cannot believe how low the bar is for a quarterback to cash out like that. It is the equivalent of being made sales manager at a ford dealership for selling 15 cars the month prior.

Must be nice! But I'll just keep working every day for my peanuts.

The fact that the only two QBs in the league that have fully guaranteed contracts have a combined record of 2-6 in the playoffs and haven't won a SB should tell you how much QBs are valued (some may say over valued) in the league.

But also, look at our team and how much we've suffered with a lack of steady QB play.

True but for every team who has suffered with lack of steady play there is one who suffered for overpaying for steady play. You gotta be somewhat lucky to find one who works out in the first place, and than you gotta play your cards right when you pay him. We seem to fail to do either. Cousins is certainly steady play, and we lucked out with the pick but than we played our cards wrong. Howell is interesting to me because I really think he is better than a fifth rounder. If he came out the year before he would have been a first round pick. Fingers crossed .

he's short (well, normal person height), not sure he would have been a first rounder.

Bryce Young is his same height or shorter, he's about to go Top 5. Not saying Howell is better than Young, but I think he would have landed somewhere in the 1st round if he was able to leave after his sophomore year.

He was actually projected by many to be a top overall pick. Play just fell off a bit junior year. Don’t think it fell off enough to be a fifth rounder but im
Glad it did.

Yes at the moment im pinning my hopes of football happiness on him. Was an absolute stud for his first two years in college and I believe he can do it in the NFL. Looking for Drew Brees 2.0 in height and performance!

I think you're missing the point. You are always going to overpay for QBs. I feel that you rarely hear of a team "suffering" because they overpaid a QB. The only time a team can walk away from steady QB play is if they have a young player in the wings ready to go.

I guess a team like the Ravens has enough reputation built in that they can have a losing season or two while they figure out their QB situation if they move on from Lamar. But look at their competition within their own division, all of them have either a promising young QB (Steelers), a establish QB (Browns), and a top 5 QB (Bengals).

Don't misunderstand me , I don't think anyone is worth money like that. Brady ,Mahomes, Jordon , Tiger, Labron. All sports stars are way over paid JMO. Yet in the market that is currently in use this is what these guys get, each new contract sets the market.

One of the most tired arguments in sports is when it comes to contracts. Fans seem to think players should be paid based on how we perceive their ranking solely based on their play, it just doesn't work that way. Next man up gets paid.

Fans don’t write checks teams do and teams certainly take performance into account. Alot of people on here who seem to think that Jones getting paid was the right move are the same people who didn’t want to give Cousins a long term deal.
Always easy when it’s not your team breaking the bank on a guy who isn’t Mahommes but wants that money to say ya gotta do it.

Teams are always going to want to avoid giving any players big pay days. Also, Cousins didn't want to be here, so people really need to stop using a comparison.

However, using Cousins as an example, a lot of Vikings fans are upset that he gets paid these crazy fully guaranteed deals, yet his ceiling seems to be one and done in the playoffs. But he provides steady QB play, if they move on from him, what's their plan?

The same with the Giants, yes it is risky to sign Jones, but what do they do if they move on from him? They have a late round pick in the draft, they are not getting a QB in the draft.
