Re: Pimp That Product

Keruigs are good. I have one and like it, but when it dies my next coffee maker will be another pot. When you first get the coffee maker the K-Cups are delicious, but after a while it loses the taste.

Definitely de-scale (white vinegar) it once a month to keep it from getting too much sediment in it and to help keep the tracks clean! Overall, a great product to make coffee quick. The lower the setting you brew on, the better it tastes.

Re: Pimp That Product

Since we are talking about coffee does anyone have a recommendation for a french press style coffe maker? I drink a lot of coffee at work and would like to do so at home when im off, but i dont want a full blow coffee maker. French press seems easy and doesnt take much space. Should i just get a cheap one or are the nice ones worth it?

Re: Pimp That Product

Here's the coffee maker I have...I LOVE IT. Hamilton Beach BrewStation.

It dispenses one cup at a time and there's no glass pot to break and scrub. I use a permanent filter instead of paper disposable ones. Keeps the coffee HOT for 2 hours after brewing then if you want to extend the heating time, just tap a button and 2 more hours. Coffee stays tasting fresh too, no burner to scorch it.

Think I paid about $70 for it several years ago. I have the 12-cup version with programmable timer, they make a 6-cup too.

Re: Pimp That Product

I was orginally looking into french presses but decided to get this instead:

How to make espresso using Moka pot - YouTube

I will highly recommend it. I really didnt want a counter top coffee maker and the french press seemed kind of cumbersome; you have to boil the water separately and then let it stew and then press it. Too much dicken around type nonsense for me.

With a "moka pot" you just put water in the bottom, coffee in the metal "filter" piece, screw it together and put it on the stove. No dicken around.

I orginally saw one at the store but it was too small so i ordered mine online. In guess in Italy a cup equals about 2 oz (maybe less), so i bought the 9 cup one which is the perfect size for me. I would recommend getting no smaller than the 6 cup.

However the coffee it makes is really stong, but also really good. I guess its is susposed to be like non-presurized expresso, if that makes sense. Ive read that many people water it down, or just drink less.

It would also be perfect for camping and stuff.

This is the one i have:

Re: Pimp That Product

Also i think i am going to get this thing eventually:

Chef Tools Bialetti Mukka Express Demo - YouTube

I do a lot of cream and no sugar to very little sugar in my coffee so i think this thing would be really nice to have. Also this thing says it makes "2 cups" but it looks much bigger then a 2 cup "moka pot" would be. So dont use this to judge size for a moka pot.

I think maybe a moka pot makes a form of expresso (not sure if expresso is a different type of coffee though?), while this thing makes cappuccino. Maybe expresso is 2oz in Italy, and cappuccino is like 4oz since its mixed with milk? Either way, just know that a 3 cup moka pot you can buy at the store is ridiculously small.

Re: Pimp That Product

I honestly want to give up coffee. I feel a salve to it at times. Everytime I quit I have to suffer through awful headaches for like a week.

Re: Pimp That Product

I used to use one of these

Amazon.com: Farberware FCP280 8-Cup Percolator: Home & Kitchen

Makes a killer cup of coffee, but I found the quality of the actual coffee maker wasn't that great. I went through 2 of these things in just a couple of years. I guess since they started making them in China the quality has suffered.

I love espresso, this is the first I've heard of a moka pot. Checked it out on wiki and it says it makes something similar to espresso, but not quite.
