Re: Bills Post-Game Thread

I get it. It hasn't looked good for the most part. Last year's O-line seems better I guess, because you had Heinicke running around with his hair on fire most of the game. Either way, I do think bringing in four new starters was taking a shot at improvement. This unit has played together a total of three games with a new QB and a new offense/OC. Defenses are doing what they should do and coming after Howell because he's still learning. It all needs to get better, and with time I think it will - if Sam survives his decisions.

I remember when Philly came in to Fedex in week 3 last year and had 9 sacks, then we turned around and took their undefeated season from them a few weeks later

We're 2-1 for goodness sakes. I understand the hope for next year and beyond, but can't we have a little for the current year too?

I'm of the same mind. I actually like what I see from SH, even the Bills game. He was trying to conjure something up, maybe trying too hard, and for me said all the right things afterwards. He just has to follow up and show its not just talk.

Almost every O is still establishing an identity by week 3 or 4. I think EB is feeling out what he has, and I think he trusts SH to learn fast on the job. Question is, can he adjust his play calling on the fly better than he did this game. Screen and run game should have been a focus to mitigate the Bills DL and particularly their LBs, but it felt like EB thought we could pass our way out of trouble. At 13-0 down the sky wasn't falling, so slow the game down and keep the Bills O off the field; try to grind it out.

D didn't help, though turnovers didn't make their job easier. I was worried they would expose our LBs and that largely came to pass. For me, Hudson was made for games like this (covering TEs and edge blitz pressure) and I have to wonder why he's not being utilised. Starters aren't getting it done...

We're middle of the pack at this stage. How we fare against the Eagles and Cowboys will determine our season, and for me its far from a lost cause yet. We have to see the Giants as 2 winnable games, so 4-2 in the division would be a good result. Right now though I'd say 2 losses to the Eagles would be no surprise. I can see us being 5-2 by the second Eagles game, and 7-4 (maybe 8-3) by the 1st Cowboys game. That would put pressure on Dallas and give us a good chance if at least 1 win against them.

This season is far from over.

Hmmm, if your going brag at least make sure your brag is accurate. Old Bay is a Baltimore thing not DC. Lame.

Re: Bills Post-Game Thread

I try and wait a few days before talking about the positives/negatives of the game. I'm not fazed by the outcome of the game; the Bills are a far superior team in all facets of the game.

O-Line: We should be expecting this type of play from this group. They were a problem last year, this preseason, and will continue to be a problem. Ron is to blame, and this should have been addressed. His idea of playing solid defense, running the ball, and controlling the clock won't work if we can' t create holes for our backs and protect QB1.

Sam: I'm not worried about it. The kid is still a rookie in the grand scheme of things. I fully expect him to trend upward the more EB works with him.

Ron: As much as I like him as a person, he is the mid-tier coach that we knew we were getting. If we don't make the playoffs and win a game this year, he needs to be gone.

Defense: Decent job considering who we were playing. J. Allen is a monster.

Dallas lost to the Jets. We beat the Jets. We are better than Dallas

Re: Bills Post-Game Thread

We had 8.1 yards per rush vs the Bills. The O-line had something to do with that. Sam didn't play great, but he needs help from his OC. Bills just continued to tee off on him, and EB did nothing to adjust to that - just kept inexplicably calling pass plays and putting him in positions to fail. The part of the game plan that was so successful against the Broncos must have been misplaced in Denver. 29 passes compared to 13 rushes was a recipe for a 30+ point loss.

This is a great analysis of Bills LG McGovern and his handling of Jon Allen. If that interior line is held in check it is going to spell for a long afternoon especially with a QB capable of picking you apart.

I’m interested in seeing if Howell is the answer at QB .. That is the only reason I’m interested in this season .. I’m more disappointed in EB play calling than Sam( he is more or less a rookie ) what is EB’s excuse ??
We get absolutely Destroyed next week
Philly 52 us 13 .. Sam won’t finish and Brissett won’t do any better because we have no coaching ..

Week 1 is weird for every team. Offense played real well week 2. Week 3 we were just beat by a better team.
I am going to hold off on calling EB a failure. I totally agree about this season being a developmental stage for Sam. But I think if we sure up the oline EB and Sam could be a good tandem.

Why so many of us said we needed to improve the LBs. If the interior line is tied up, the LBs should be hitting the gaps etc. Our LBs aren't feared, so the Bills concentrated on neutralising the DL🫥

I practically stated verbatim on Sunday in the game thread. Bieneimy committed coaching malpractice against the Bills. Draws, screens, misdirection, and a steady dose running the ball should've been our calling on Sunday. Occasionally, going max-protect and have a back or tight end chip the edge rusher before going out into their pattern would've sufficed as well. If we had done those things then I presume we likely would've witnessed a different game two days ago.

Many times, it was our front 4 versus the Bills' front five. Not to mention, Sweat and Young aren't consistent enough to take up any slack whenever Allen/Payne are held in check. This is when the defensive coordinator has to be exotic and creative, and scheme up pressure.

JDR is too vanilla to be creative IMO.

Yeah, Jamin Davis is making some plays and having a decent Season IMO (hated that missed tackle late in the fourth though), but Cody Barton is slow AF...

Barton i think is slow in the brain. at Seattle, he was not good until his 4th season and then looked very fast. His athletic traits are through the roof. But now in a new system he looks extremely slow he looked in his first couple of years with the Seahawks. I think he is not processing fast enough negating those the speed he has.
