I see Sammis Reyes only got 2 snaps in the game, both on ST, seems he is sinking off of the roster, how long do you keep a roster spot for a project?

As I stated yesterday, Doc is good for a radio show but a bit much for game commentary. I use to actually like him on the 'noon Jefferson-Pilot/Raycom ACC football games from several years ago. He was the analyst on those games for quite a few years. Doc was even-keeled, although he was kinda funny as well on those games.

Now, on broadcasts, he's a bit over-the-top with the constant rah rah/tough guy talk and the hackneyed cliches. He's almost a caricature of himself. He's better suited for a radio show IMO, as his overzealousness eventually becomes boring.

This is coming from someone who really likes Doc Walker.

I personally felt the dynamic between him and Kenny Albert was almost comical yesterday. Almost as if Albert didn't feel totally comfortable working next to him. Walker sounded more like a critical, pissed fan than color commentator. Great stuff though. Theismann was pretty candid in this role previously. Walker was on a whole other level.

I found Doc Walker to be very entertaining. His enthusiasm for football and the Commanders was refreshing. He made me laugh a lot during the game, too. Right now, I need to hear some over-the-top super fan commentary on my team. It's pre-season, so go for it, Doc!

I actually wouldn't mind it if I could listen to Doc Walker call all the Washington games this year. I don't think he's trying to be someone he's not, tough guy or whatever. He is a homer for sure, but he doesn't pull any punches, just tells it like it is (how he sees it). I thought he was both critical and complementary. I'd much rather listen to him than a number of other guys I'll be forced to listen to this year, like Aqib Talib...

AG with the fumbles man, can't believe this is still an issue for him. Robinson is going to steal carries from him early and often. I'd put Robinson on the preseason shelf. He looks good, I think the coaches know what they have in him, no need to risk him further.

Loved the new uniforms especially the helmets.

Wentz looked solid. Howell looked great but we've seen QBs tear it up against backups before. So I'm keeping my hype level low on him.

I really like Jonathan Williams but where does he fit on the regular season roster?

Love Doc Walker when it comes to him being a guest on podcasts and stuff, in the booth though? Eh, way too much of a homer. I get it, it's preseason and he does make me laugh at times, I just like him in a different setting.

Wentz ran the offense very well, that's a great sign.. TBH He looked much better than Matt Ryan did and NFLN pointed that out too.

Howell was awesome but he also had 2 dropped INTS.. But... He looks like a freaking Russell Wilson clone doesn't he??

OLINE and DLINE were very good

spot on.

I take SH over TH though for spot QB2, if Wentz goes down lets see what sam can do. TH i am sorry is just not a NFL QB.

And the Doc commentary was painful, he is not polished at all, i guess that is why some folks liked him.

Another thing I read about was the 3rd down defense, struggled again with the starters. Nothing to get worked up about but this is similar to AG fumbles last year…it’s still happening

Another coaching move if the defense starts slow, JDR goes and Chris Harris gets his opportunity with Ron assisting him

Re: Panthers v. Manders Preseason Gameday Thread

D -Mayfield went 3/4 on 3rd down conversions on their first drive, 2 being passes and the one failed conversion came off Baker fumbling the snap the play before setting up a 3rd and 14.

1st set - 3rd and 3 ... pass for 19 yards
2nd set - 3rd and 3 .. run up middle for 5
3rd set - 3rd and 5 ... pass for 15 yards

31st last year in 3rd down D and I imagine 32nd in 3rd down pass coverage D.

Wentz - showed he can identify and make some throws Heinike cant. Made some quick decisions. Went 10/13 and 2 of the incompletions were 1 on 1, give your guy a chance balls that he slightly underthrew.

O Line - looked good but who knows

I didnt watch the 2nd half.

----

Doc Walker - his old man schtick is fine, Id rather have it during a game vs his radio show (radio was unbearable) and unless we get Cooley or Paulsen, I dont have much hope for an analytical color commentator for local broadcasts.

Kind annoying when we held them to back to back 2 yard runs and he said back to back "not good enough" .... dude, we had a bottom 10 defense last year and the Panthers were rolling on us.

Jesus if Talib does any of our games I will just turn the sound down. He is perhaps the worst person color analyst I have ever heard. Ever.

Julie, Weinstein and now Fletcher will be really bad but not as bad.

We are a real long way from Frank, Sonny and Sam / Madden and Summerall. :-(

Our interior run defense should be phenomenal with Mathis, Payne, and Allen. Good luck running through those guys.
