Re: NFL Network: Bears' Briggs, 31st Pick for Skins' 6th Pick?
I am speechless. How is it possible the the Redskins FO are actually considering this trade? It is yet another example of the Redskins having apparently a completely different value system than EVERY OTHER NFL TEAM OF THE FACE OF THE PLANET. The difference in value (just by the chart) between the 6th and 31st picks is 1,000 points, which is the equivalent of the #16 overall pick in the first round. Find me another team that would trade the 16th pick for a disgruntled LB who wants a FAT new contract. No other team in the NFL would give up more than a 2nd for Briggs, not a single one. I challenge you to find the team that would give up more than that. i don't care how many Pro Bowls he's been to, this is just a gross overvaluation of the player.
Even if he came in and did well it would still be a bad trade. It is like going to your Stock Trader, saying that you really like Amazon and the way Amazon does business. They have preformed well in the past and you think they will do well in the future. As a result you tell your trader that you don't want to pay the going rate, but instead want to pay TWICE the current price. Even if you ended up making money in the end, that would be a stupid deal. No one trades down from 6 to 31. I feel fairly safe in saying it has probably never happened before and there is a reason for that. It is because every other team in the NFL values their draft picks, the Redskins apparently still do not. If this trade goes through it is really going to challenge my loyalty as a fan and that is really saying something. The only way this deal would make any sense is if we were getting a healthy Tommie Harris back in return. Adding a very good linebacker to a team that needs some very good defensive linemen, giving up too much in order to do so, paying out yet another big contract . . . IT IS LIKE WE ARE FREAKING SPINNING OUR WHEELS, I can't take much more of this!

probably saying they're into the trade t get the giants/iggles/roids to bite and overpay. I can't believe the skins would actually pull the trigger on this.

Re: NFL Network: Bears' Briggs, 31st Pick for Skins' 6th Pick?
I still maintain though that the real issue here with us fans is what this symbolizes. This is just so typical of the type of deal the Skins do every year. If it wasn't for the past what might be saying hey, great player, pull the trigger, but this was supposed to be the year where we finally figured it out.
All you have to do is listen to Portis's year end rant on the Thompson show to see how the players feel about these kind of moves. If this happens I am getting drunk by myself and throwing things. |

Re: NFL Network: Bears' Briggs, 31st Pick for Skins' 6th Pick?
Marcus Washington plays OLB. Lance Briggs plays OLB (and is 4 years younger than Marcus). Marcus is coming off serious hip surgery. Could it be that his injury is far worse than anyone knows? How is his rehabilitation going? I'm surprised this hasn't really been mentioned in this thread (I think SmootSmack hinted at it). I'd really like to know what's up with Marcus.
The real reason I hate this trade has nothing to do with my confidence in Briggs' abilities. It's the fact that by swapping down to the 31st pick, we lose all ammunition to acquire more 1st day picks. I'd be all for this if we already had a 2nd and 3rd rounder. Why on earth is Danny lobbing rumors out there now? Something isn't right with this. It don't want it to happen.

Re: NFL Network: Bears' Briggs, 31st Pick for Skins' 6th Pick?
Well the Eagles could care less about Briggs b/c they just got Spikes. I think the way Briggs became so outspoken against the Bears organization turned a lot of teams off. I wouldn't be surprised if MattyK's theory is right, and this is just Rosenhaus asking a favor of the Danny so they can drum up some interest in Briggs. This guy is a 26 year old 2 time pro-bolwer, and teams seem not to give two shits about him.

we have enough linebackers, and he is leaving Chicagp because they dont want to pay him his market value. We CAN'T pay him, so why even bother.

Re: NFL Network: Bears' Briggs, 31st Pick for Skins' 6th Pick?
any time there is a RUMOR that involves drew rosenhaus, everyone should slow down around here. the man is good at getting top dollar for his clients. therefore, the redskins will ALWAYS be mentioned along with whoever his free agent is. its just good business to use the skins as a bargaining tool. because the skins have been known to over pay from time to time.

The only way this could be true and not involve me spitting out bile for the next week involves the following variables:

Re: NFL Network: Bears' Briggs, 31st Pick for Skins' 6th Pick?
Hey guys I really don't know what everyone is so upset about, it worked out really great when the Redskins signed Jeremiah Trotter, a young linebacker who had made a couple of Pro Bowls and had become disgruntled with his team . . . oh wait . . . And we didn't drop 25 spots in the first round to do that (NOBODY BUT THE REDSKINS WOULD EVEN TALK ABOUT DOING THAT!). From the sources this story is coming from (Schefter, Glazer, Pasquarelli) I can do nothing but believe that this is absolutely true and the Bears would be crazy not to make that deal. I'm treating this as a fait accompli until I hear otherwise . . . I'm officially on suicide watch . . .
