If Im not mistaken, didn't they mismanage Kellen Winslow's deal as well, tying most of his money to performance. Then he gets dumb, gets hurt, and loses big big bucks.

The Postons have been trouble all over the place. It's amazing to me that Lavar has stuck by them after they didn't read the contract they signed.

My guess is that the opertation will keep going even if the brothers are sidelined--kinda like running a crime family from jail. But it should make it harder to get new clients--though they seem to be able to hypnotize folks with big egos like Lavar and the Soldier.

Is that at least partial vindication for the Redskins FO in the Lavar saga?

I hope players like woodson and/or Law decided to jump ship so they could become an option for us in the nickle

Re: Carl Poston suspended by the NFLPA for two years

This is what ProFootballTalk says:

Liz Mullen of SportsBusiness Journal reports that the NFLPA Committee on Agent Regulation and Discipline has voted to suspend agent Carl Poston for two years.

The suspension arises from Poston's negotiation of LaVar Arrington's December 2003 contract extension with the Redskins. After the deal was done, Poston claimed that the Redskins had failed to include in the final version of the contract a $6.5 million roster bonus payable in 2006, which would have resulted in two 2006 $6.5 million roster bonuses in the contract. In support of the allegation that the 'Skins had hoodwinked Arrington and his agent, Poston admitted that the didn't read the contract before it was signed. The grievance filed on Arrington's behalf later was resolved in a manner that resulted in no payment or promise of payment to Arrington.

Poston can appeal the suspension to an arbitrator.

The irony is that Arrington was cut before either bonus would have come due. And the far bigger disservice, in our opinion, to Arrington was the failure of Poston to determine the market value of Arrington before allowing him to waive $4.4 million in deferred signing bonus money in order to secure his freedom, and in permitting him to turn down the opportunity to convert the $6.5 million roster bonus into a guaranteed payment. In more than a week since Arrington bought his release from the 'Skins by giving up the deferred bonus money, Arrington has made two visits and has received no offers.

Because that would require balls or some other component of male genitalia.

I was thinking about this point. The Postons really did blow it there as well, to the skins benefit. Not that Lavar won't get good money, IMO, but he didn't have to do this and it hasn't seemingly helped his FA position. In addition, who'd want to sign Lavar if it means dealing with the Postons?

Maybe Lavar's ego shrinks a little and we re-sign him? I know the relationship is damaged and has been talked about ad nauseam here but if he loves the team and the fans as much as he says he does, it could happen... (wishful thinking)

his position coach HATES him, so i doubt it. I don't think he's going to react well to the tiny contract he's going to wind up with though.

Re: Carl Poston suspended by the NFLPA for two years

Suspending a man from his working in his profession for two years is crazy. Let the market punish him and if Arrington wants to sue, I'm sure he'd have no problem nailing him to the wall for malpractice. I just don't see how this is right.

Arrington's agent suspended!

Carl Poston, the agent for ex-Redskins linebacker LaVar Arrington, was suspended for two years Wednesday by the NFL Players Association's Committee on Agent Regulation & Discipline, the SportsBusiness Journal reported.

The suspension stems from violations over Arrington's contract negotiations at the end of the 2003 season. Arrington claims the Redskins orally agreed to a $6.5 million bonus, a bonus that was subsequently left out of the former Penn State star's contract.

"The suspension is wrong, irresponsible, and in violation of the NFLPA rules," Poston's lawyer, Paul Aloe, said in a statement issued Thursday. "We intend to vigorously contest this using all appropriate legal remedies. These charges are utterly without merit. It is LaVar Arrington's call whether or not Carl adequately represents him. LaVar has urged that the charges be dismissed and that Carl did nothing wrong."

Aloe said the Poston will take the case to arbitration under NFLPA rules. Poston will continue to represent his clients while contesting the suspension.

"We are confident that when the process is completed, Carl will be completely vindicated," Aloe said.

In August, Arrington and the team came to a settlement over the bonus, but terms favored the Redskins, who agreed only to a deal that would make Arrington a free agent or net him a $3.25 million bonus if he made the Pro Bowl in two of the next four seasons. He did not make the Pro Bowl this season.

Arrington reached an agreement with the Redskins earlier this month that allowed him to become a free agent. He said Thursday that he will keep Poston as his agent.

"It's a total injustice,'' Arrington said. "Things like that happen in life."

In January, the NFLPA filed a formal complaint seeking disciplinary action against Poston for "neglect."

Poston's suspension was announced at the players' union's annual meeting in Maui.
