Re: Better Rookie Season Stats Griffin or Luck?

I think the Skins are a better team than the Colts so RGIII will have better stats as a rookie but this is a marathon not a sprint so time will tell if RGIII was worth what was paid for him.

If we have 10+ wins I'll be very happy.
Games start and wins for Griffin only stats im worried about. I think 8+ wins with RG3 starting all games at QB would be a very successful year.

I don't understand posts like this.
If you don't care about a thread topic then why post *shrugs*?
You would think a person that doesn't care about a thread topic simply wouldn't post in the thread.
I mean you must have some interest because afterall here you are...

I'm actually curious about the questions asked in the OP, I'm not trying to make a statement on any other subject not wins or who I think will be better long term.
The questions posed int the OP were the topics of a great discussion at work awhile back and who better to have that discussion with then the my Redskins brethen?

Why not hazard a guess at their statistical production or any question from the OP?

But, after looking the Colts draft, offseason moves and returning players I'm not as certain that Griff will put up better stats then Luck.

Follow on questions not included in the Title:

Which teams has better offensive weapons? Us or the Colts?

What rookie season stats do you think Griffin and Luck will post?

What type of rookie season production does Luck need to justify the 'best prospect since' hype? (60.0%--4,051yds--7.8ypa--21 TDs--17 Ints--84.5 Rating +706 rush yds--14 rush TDs)
More clarity of the OP:

Here's some false assumptions about my question:

o I'm not saying that stats are more important then WINs you would think this goes without saying (especially since I actually say that first and foremost I want more WINs)

o I'm not making a value judgement nor a using their rookie season stats as an indication or predictive measure of their respective careers

I'm just curious about the our perceptions or expectations of Griffin and Lucks rookie seasons statistical production.

I'm also curious about what type of rookie season production (if any) that Luck needs to hold on to the mantle of being a both a better prospect then Cam Newton and the greatest prospect since Peyton Manning/John Elway.

Re: Better Rookie Season Stats Griffin or Luck?

I gotta start writing more articles these NFL.com below discuss the same topics that were the aim of this thread:

Andrew Luck, RG3 won't match Newton, says scout - NFL.com

Robert Griffin III faces more pressure than Andrew Luck in 2012 - NFL.com

Quote:
Neither player is likely to duplicate Cam Newton's incredible rookie season. (Newton completed 60 percent of his passes for 4,051 yards, 21 touchdowns and 17 interceptions, while rushing for an additional 706 yards and 14 scores.) Realistically, I expect both players to put up numbers similar to recent top-three selections Sam Bradford and Matt Ryan. I anticipate them to complete around 60 percent of their passes for 3,400 yards, 18 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. I'll be disappointed if either of them fails to post numbers in that range.

Interesting article. It only reminds me of pre draft arguments.

Re: Better Rookie Season Stats Griffin or Luck?

I'm expecting Griffin to make a lot of plays off schedule, as Mike Shanahan puts it. He has the ability to find the open receiver. He has the ability to throw the deep ball on target. And he certainly has the ability to outrun the entire opposing defense from end zone to end zone. Griffin could end up being the rookie of the year. I'm predicting that RG3 will put up better statistical numbers as a rookie than Andrew Luck because RG3 has better offensive players around him. Luck on the other hand has all of the above mentioned qualities and abilities that Griffin has expect being able to outrun an entire NFL defense from end zone to end zone.

A valid point the articles mentions, which has been brought up in this thread is whether which team really does have the best weapons?

Quote:
WEAPONS

Both teams have a bit of turnover in terms of offense weapons. The Colts return Reggie Wayne and Austin Collie but that’s about all that they return for Luck to throw to. The return of Wayne was a surprise to many but don’t underestimate the effect that a proven commodity at the receiver position can have on a young quarterback. Peyton Manning had Marvin Harrison to grow with, Brett Favre had Sterling Sharpe, Aaron Rodgers had Donald Driver, and Tom Brady had Troy Brown just to name a few cases. It also makes the evaluation of said young quarterback easier knowing that the receiver they’re throwing to isn’t a problem. Austin Collie has had flashes, he just needs to hope that the concussion issues are gone for good. Look for the team to utilize second and third round picks Coby Fleener (a tweener tight end who will likely get some time at slot) and Dwayne Allen (a conventional in-line tight end) often. Speedy rookie receiver T.Y. Hilton is a target to keep an eye on and he has the unique ability to make defenders miss.

In Washington, the quantity is certainly there but the quality of weapons is to be seen. Tight end Fred Davis is the leading receiver coming back in 2012, with 59 receptions for 796 yards in just 12 games. Extrapolated to 16 games that is a 78 catch 1061 yard season – not too shabby considering the quarterback play. 33 year old Santana Moss is slated to be back and he will battle with a pair of free agents (Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan) and a sophomore coming off basically a redshirt rookie year (Leonard Hankerson). The offseason plan was clearly to stack up on speedsters to take advantage of the plus deep ball that Robert Griffin III possesses. Even though the opinion around the league is that the team overpayed for Garcon (-3.7 overall rating last season) he is still just 25 years old and with the amount of draft picks spent on RG3, Washington’s options were limited.

EDGE: Indianapolis Colts (Andrew Luck)

If not for the signing of Reggie Wayne, the edge may have gone to the Washington Redskins. But with the retaining of Wayne, every other offensive player has some weight taken from their shoulders. An added bonus for Andrew Luck is that he has variety to throw to – solid hands in Wayne, shifty route runner in Collie, matchup nightmare in Fleener, and a weapon in space Hilton. In other words, if Andrew Luck ends up being who people say he is, pick your poison.
They also give the Colts the edge on the OL.
Gotta say I agree with both assessments.

Griffin, only because of who he has and who Luck has. If given the same, definitely would go with Luck.

Why do you think Colts have lesser talent?

Re: Better Rookie Season Stats Griffin or Luck?

Griffin, this year and beyond. I honestly think this kid will be that good. We could have him for a long time. I know all about Luck, and honestly I believe both players can handle everything that comes with the NFL. The QB position has to be one of the most stressful jobs there is on the planet of taken seriously. IE Micheal Vick early in his career(based on his real lack of effort to get better) Ryan Leaf who was broken by the pressure of being a qb in the league.

The better question is which one will get more rings?

Rebuilding. They have talent, just not as much as we do.
