The truth about Terry is a bitter pill to swallow. He's not that A1 Ja'Marr/Jefferson/AJ Brown type and even worse, he's getting up there in age. By the time we're really ready to contend in a few years, he'll be 30 years old in a league where all the top receivers are 30 or younger.

He's a great receiver, leader, and tone-setter. But in an offense-driven league, you need at least one dominant offensive weapon and I don't think he's at that level.

I'd be fine with that if there's not a bona fide supa star sitting there.

That's not a big deal.....look at DeSean Jackson and Antonio Brown who played at a high level past 30 Yeats old.

Small sample size. Obviously productivity is likely to decline for a wide receiver after 30.

There will always be WRs coming into the league.....McLaurin will still be productive.......

I love Terry but when was the last time he took over a game like other dominant wide receivers? Other guys get doubled all the time and still put up big numbers. I like that Sam spreads the ball around but Terry hasn't had a dominant game in over a year it feels like.

I'm happy with Terry and think he still has several good years left in him but he's not a Devante Adams/Deandre Hopkins/etc. kinda receiver. He's a solid possession guy but last week was the first time in a year or so we saw him use his breakaway speed for big yards after the catch.

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread

Terry is a glue guy not a go to guy. He has the ability to get that critical first down at the most important time. This year he has actually dropped a few of those critical plays. I love Terry, not at the same level as SD, but I am not going to be shocked if the post 2025 Commanders go a different route.

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread

Might be just a skosh early in Sam's development to conclude that Terry can't still be a go to guy, can't take over a game, etc. This year is all about learning what Sam can do and him progressing and learning how to be an NFL QB. I wouldn't put too much stock into the fact that TM isn't 'dominating'. Like Moob said, Sam is spreading the ball around. A receiver can only catch what is thrown his way. Terry is #16 in targets and #18 in receptions. If he was #5 in targets, he'd probably be near top 5 in receptions and all the other receiving stats.

I guess I never have considered Terry a go to guy. He is more a Dennis Rodman than a Michael Jordan

I hate to agree with this but i do. If we could pay him like the best number 2 in the league id be happy but he is not a top tier game changer.

Just don't get desperate and reach for those positions of particular need. Too many examples of that not working out in the recent past. Just pick the very best player on your board - or find a trade partner to acquire more picks.
New GM and new top-tier of coaches next season. I'm ok with with them picking obvious PON (position-of need). We might miss, but there are obvious holes to plug. We're really bad at a bunch of positions.

Agreed. Every good team in the league has a bonafide stud on both sides of the ball. We do not have any. At least not one that has achieved that status yet. We need a game breaker on both sides of the ball. It is so obvious.
