Re: Official Cut Day Discussion Thread

I'm a little surprised with McMullen being cut, we must be going with Cooley and Davis when we go with a spread formation. I think that's a pretty decent alternative if Thomas and Kelly aren't ready from day one.

Re: Official Cut Day Discussion Thread

If Zorn did not cut a single one of Cerrato's draft picks, I hope this does not mean he's afraid to stand up to the front office.

I'm kinda glad Wade is gone. The dude was constantly getting manhandled.

On to the front office. Frosty apparently is making a case that the front office/Vinny is behind his departure. You have to wonder how much say so if any Coach Zorn, Danny and the coaching staff really had on this issue? Vinny and the scouts did use a draft pick on Brooks.

Frost Unhappy With Decision, But Moving On (First Stop - Seattle)

Just got off the phone with released punter Derrick Frost. He praised special teams coach Danny Smith and implied that the decision to let him go in favor of rookie draft pick Durant Brooks was made by the front office.
"I feel like I was dealt with dishonestly," Frost said. "I want to thank Danny Smith for the three years he gave me here, and I feel like he always treated me well, and I will continue to think that. But I think we all know who made the decision, and when you've got a draft that isn't starting to look so good, you're going to do whatever you can to make it look as good as possible."
This is Vinny Cerrato's first draft and offseason with his new title, executive vice president, and the team kept all 10 of his picks. The Redskins, informed of Frost's statement, declined to comment.
Frost said he is at peace with his performance this summer: "In hindsight you often say, 'What if I could have done this or that?' But I really feel like no matter what I would have done it would have come out this way." Within a few hours of being released Frost had calls from other teams and will be in Seattle Tuesday for a tryout.

Frost said he loves living in this area, and will make it his home here even if he finds another NFL club. He also said he hopes to keep ties to many people in the organization.
He was not given any reasoning for the decision, Frost said, but is looking forward to the future and wants to continue displaying the form he showed in training camp and the preseason games.
"I was given no explanation by anyone," Frost said. "They kept trying to tell me that it was close, that it was close and that it was an open competition, but I don't feel that was really the case."
I'd be the first to say that Frost had a shaky tenure here and the team needed to upgrade at punter, whether through a new-and-improved Frost, or someone else. But this was also by far the most consistent I had ever seen him perform in practices and games, and his leg looked bigger than ever. To me, he outproduced the kid.
Ahhhhhhh, poor JLC - looks like he just lost another source.

It was a close competition, but Frosty has shown inconsistency in games, Brooks is the unknown. Also, Frost had nice yardage but Brooks had the better hang time. He was dealt with dishonestly?? Please. If I am a vet with demonstrated inconsistency, I know the only way I stick is to bury the rookie.

Re: Official Cut Day Discussion Thread

I'm surprised with the Tryon cut, but as bad as he did it would not have sat well with me that we cut our 4th round pick...I mean that's just wasting a pick. Ditto with the McMullen comments, we have got to be picking up a veteran wideout...maybe Caldwell? I hope we get a vet b/c the two rookies are not doing anything this year.

Any possibility that they might be using Wilson as a LB? or any of the DEs we have? I was curious about that. Also I'm glad Fincher made it. I hope he plays with the same enthusiasm he did during the Jax game.

Re: Official Cut Day Discussion Thread

If there are a couple of moves I make today, it's cut Tryon and sign Deltha O'Neal also, cut Rob Jackson and sign Jerome McDougle.

Re: Official Cut Day Discussion Thread

I said Richardson was the surprise cut simply because Tryon was GOD AWFUL in the preseason. Tryon's got no business being on our roster.

Mix is gone? Our season is over.

Glad to see Brooks is getting a chance, though.

LOL gotta love a punter spewing sour grapes on his way out of town.

What a loser.

Frost did outplay Brooks slightly this preseason, but in order to beat him out I think Frost needed to be lights out and Brooks a complete joke. Instead it was a close race and youth and potential won out.

Right. What did Frost expect? Bitter. Wonder if he'll get picked up? I imagine he will.

Re: Official Cut Day Discussion Thread

I was just browsing the Skins' website and they have Horton as a 3rd string CB and they have Fincher and Betts wearing #46. All of this prob means nothing, but it was interesting to see both of these things.
