Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
Next is FA, then draft. FA activity should give us a pretty clear steer on draft strategy. If they don't get in a solid veteran backup it would suggest they're keeping Howell as at least a backup. If they go after more than 2-3 FA OL then I'd say that leans hard into a QB with the #2 or a trade up. They won't rely solely on the draft for protection if they think they'll get a franchise QB in the draft, especially if they lose picks in a trade up.

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
If you keep him until another team gets desperate due to an injury or another coach's hubris makes him believe he can turn Howell into a star, then you might get considerable more than a late round pick, maybe even a couple of mid rounders.

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
I was thinking more along the lines of he would be #2 if we didn't grab a vet, but you hit the nail on the head; keep him if only for just this instance.

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
Anything is possible. Kingsbury might even think he can make something out of him and not draft a quarterback at #2. Who knows?

Richard Sherman and I think the Commanders might make a BIG trade offer to Chicago for the #1 pick which will be Caleb Williams. |

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
That does instill some fear for sure. And im not the highest on Penix, just want to build around Howell which was the first part of the post. Having a very solid FA and draft adding multiple starters on the OL and D -- that would be fine for me. Giving Sam one more shot.
Unpopular opinion of the year, for sure. The only long term QB im high on is MAYE

But I'd be OK w/ this. I would assume this would mean a trade-down too, to get even more picks. It's definitely exciting to see how this will play out. It's just so fucking nice, not having Snyder around to fuck it all up.

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
Love all the old accounts coming alive!
Don't downplay the importance of a QB. The Chiefs don't win a playoff game without Mahomes. If Caleb Williams is even close to Mahomes in talent, I would sell everything to bring him in. The good news is leadership brought in a guy that coached both Caleb and Mahomes. If they do or don't trade for the 1st pick, it's probably the correct decision. Next question is how close is Daniels. |

Only concern for me is giving up too much in a trade that we then can't fix the rest of the roster, and worse, if that trade doesn't pan out. You don't want to sell your Ferrari and end up with a BMW (or worse) when you could have kept your Ferrari and still gotten a Porsche too. |
