He wants Howell to earn the spot, which is appropriate approach. |

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Agree its another classic example of Ron speak. One day Howell is QB1 the next day he in a QB competition.

He has to say that though... I mean Brisett could be the guy if he out plays SH in practice of course

He was QB only, until we signed Brissett.
He has said that Howell will get first crack at winning the job. |

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I imagine Brissett would have to win the competition going away to start Week 1. If it's like 55/45, Howell will very likely start.

Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
If the season started today and there was no camp or preseason Howell would be the starter. They like what they saw in him during practice and his one game. QB-1 and starter are not the same though. Mainly because starters are not named until all the offseason stuff is over. If Brissett beats him out in camp and preseason he will be the starter. I have nothing good to say about Ron as a HC, but in this case I don’t think he is being misleading or Coach speaking. If the season started tomorrow Sam or QB -1 would start.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Keim just shared one interesting nugget in his podcast, the team is expecting Chris Paul or Saahdiq Charles to compete for guard spot and it seems like the team doesn't expect Norwell to start. This is a good news. It will be interesting to see how we shuffle the Oline if we draft a tackle in early rounds.

I think Paul has a good chance to at least be G number 3 (next man up).

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I still think that if we draft a tackle high he goes to RT or LG for a season or two until Leno leaves or is cut. If he goes to RT then Wylie will shift back to his better position at RG and Cosmi to LG. Add a young centre behind Gates in rnd 3 or 4 and we are set. Cutting Norwell, Roullier and Cornelius Lucas saves $16m on the cap.

Leno (I imagine he starts here 1 more year)/Wylie/Roullier or Gates/Cosmi/1st Round Tackle. Depending on how the draft falls, I wouldn't be surprised if we drafted a C to back-up Gates and released Roullier. Use that money to sign some post-draft casualties from other teams for other positions of need.
