Good question, dumb idea on their part. Then again, some coaches want their own players.

Tunsil for Clowney seems like a perfect trade fit to me. I wouldn't be surprised if Miami and Houston did this deal.

Trent to New England, new England 1st round pick to Miami, Tunsil and a 4 round pick to Skins.

That would be idiotic for Miami. Tunsil was like pick 10 or something and has played well. The Pats 1st rounder will probably be 29+. Going back that far for a player with no nfl experience and a 4th rounder for an elite yet oft-injured 31 year old would be insane.

Again, not buying it.

My dream is for Trent to come back happy, motivated and healthy. Either Martin or (dare I say it) Flowers will be an improvement at LG and I want to see our line maul some people. Also part of the dream.

I can’t help wonder if AP can help - they’re tight and Trent will be blocking for him. If it were me, I’d be like “C’mon man. You’re going to make me run behind Christian? You’re going to get me killed.” Also part of the dream.

All these dreams, and yet....

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal

Their Online is bad and he’s probably the best player on their team. He’s young, healthy, and on a good deal. Don’t get me wrong, short of Trent coming back, this would be the best case scenario I can think of. Which makes me very skeptical.

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal

#Redskins coach Jay Gruden reiterates that he still "very strongly” believes LT Trent Williams won’t be traded. The team has privately resisted all inquiries. Note: I’m told Williams, who has had several surgeries, is now healthy and ready to play. For someone.

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal

I hope the team is not mis-managing this situation like they did with Cousins. Although many assume that Gruden is giving the party line in order to get more in a trade, I’m not so sure.

Dan Snyder and his lackey, Bruce Allen are petty and hold grudges. They are monumentally pissed with TW for not wanting to stay with the team as it’s best player and after they have paid him 100 million dollars. I could see a scenario where the team punishes TW (and themselves) by not trading him before the draft cutoff. You don’t become the league’s worst owner without working hard to get there.

The team has all the leverage in this situation. The floor has been set for a trade with him at a first round pick. I am fine with the team taking their time for a better offer. I'm fine with them waiting on this situation.

With Kirk, their mistake was not moving on, since Kirk also did not want to play here (but he showed up to play).

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal

You are exactly right, the team wouldn’t move on from Cousins, nor pay him what he wanted, which ended up being the worst scenario.

I don’t see how the Redskins are in the driver seat with TW. Trent has made it abundantly clear he is very happy to sit out the season to make his point by being traded. The team can get a good or very good deal before the first game of the season, IF they do something. But I’ll can also see them taking the worst path, as with Cousins, by not biting the bullet and getting on with it. They can use the PR line, “waiting for a better deal” or “we know Trent will come back to us”. Or both at the same time, which is what they are doing now.

Denying any trade rumors and hoping to “force” TW to come back to the field as a Redskin. This will be the worst course of action and frankly, about what I’d suspect from Snyder and BA.

The Redskins have until the trade deadline to deal Williams. You never know if there is a team out there who is willing to pay the price. I'm sure there will be one team that's willing to do it, especially if it means helping them in a playoff run.

I could be completely wrong on this, but if Trent doesn't play this year, that cap space can be carried over to the next year, so that's a plus for the team IMO (again, I could be completely wrong on this).

You could make the case that once the trade deadline happens, the team loses leverage, but I still think the 2020 NFL draft would be the absolute deadline to trade Williams. If it goes that far.

Finally, I a lot of people thought this team was going to be bad, so I don't know how a bad season goes in favor of Williams. Even if the team goes a mediocre 8-8, that won't help TW in his situation.

As I said, I'm fine with the team sitting and waiting.
