That could be true, but it seems like we won't ever branch branch out. I want a meritocracy. Nepotism is no good.

This is the year it can happen.. Got a good GM, lots of draft picks, lots of cap space. It's a great set up for a big turnaround. The Giants defense completely changed in one year on a few key acquisitions, we can do this as well. I'm willing to give Manusky a year or two -- but then again, what choice do any of us have anyway....

He can't bump his head on the ceiling, he needs to break through.
I hope he smashes thru like the Kool-Aid man. I honestly think we win 10+. 9 would be shocking, and not in the good way.

Barring injuries obviously, i think we're a lock for the playoffs.

Isn't that the crap we were saying about Barry when he was hired? And even about Haslett? We know these guys suck, there will be no surprises. Hate this hire, seriously.
We just hired Tomsula as the dline coach, am I stupid or was he not a plug and play at DC?

I don't think we interviewed him for DC, but I'm glad we got him for DL coach. Great choice. Don't take anything the 9ers joke of an organization does seriously. Now let's get him and Manusky some talent.

But you might be a smart person, would you extend your HC next season if he goes 6-10 or worse?
When you say shit like "we will likely have another qb" despite there being 0 credibility towards that "fact" besides your own delusions, I make my own conclusions. The worst part of your statement is the fact I agree, if Manusky somehow keeps our defense average or god forbid even worse next season despite the incoming talent infusion (literally Scott knows he has 1 fucking job this offseason, it's priorities 1, 2, and 3) then there's a good chance our entire staff gets canned instead of just his weak ass d-coordinator.

Besides, extensions don't mean shit. They are just meant to reassure the person who receives them. Forgotten McNabb? He was benched like two weeks after getting his extension in 2010. Go ask Ryan Grigson if that extension that he got last year is working out for him now.

I concur! If the Redskins can get stronger up front on defense and can get a playmaking free safety such as Eric Berry in free agency or draft a free safety such as Malik Hooker or Jabril Peppers , then the defense will improve greatly.....this has been a good offseason already.

Re: Redskins promote Greg Manusky to defensive coordinator

Still not a fan of Manusky, and still say this is a underwhelming hire, BUT if he puts good position coaches around him like Tomsula.....then maybe we can have something....

His group didn't excel beyond their abilities (in fact they barely played up to theirs). And his past stints as DC didn't produce elite or even top 10 outputs. Others that were looked at could answer yes to both those questions.

As a Skins fan, yes I hope he succeeds, and yes I hope we infuse top talent, which makes the DC's job easier. But no, as an NFL observer, he was not the right man for the job, not even close.

You do not know what will go down with
Cousins either. What if San Francisco offers him over 25 million? There are a ton of desperate teams out there. Are we going to break the bank for a guy who doesn't handle pressure too well? I want Kirk resigned, but not at an inflated price. Also, you have no idea what Kirk is thinking. He might want a change of scenery for all we know.

http://www.ninersnation.com/2017/1/2...rdinator-49ers

from the article:

Quote:
Tomsula was out of football over the past year following his firing by the 49ers. He had served as DL coach for eight years, including four with Manusky as the team’s defensive coordinator. It was a frustrating time as the 49ers had talented players on defense, but the unit could not put it all together.
Yay... (not really)

This is pretty much my feelings as well. I don't believe Manusky was the best candidate for the job. I believe the top two candidates didn't want to come here. Otherwise, there would have been no reason to interview other guys before making up your mind on Pettine or Bradley. Their resume of past success is all the 'skins brass needed to make a judgment on if either two were right for the DC position. Instead, they promoted from within, a guy - while beloved by the team - does not have a resume that suggests he can improve the defense.

I will fully support Greg Manusky and hope he can turn the defense around, but I don't like the hire.
