I'm trying to figure out which area our staff has helped our team play above their talent level and I'm struggling to think of one.

Defense, don't get me started. But even offense. McVay has had decent playcalling games in the past, but it's pretty easy to call plays when you have Reed, Jackson, Garcon, Crowder, and good tackles. The constant fade calls yesterday show a lack of creativity. And the running game was working OK yesterday. Why we ended up so unbalanced is unacceptable.

In what way is this staff making us better?
the qb who once took a knee instead of spiking it.

and the oc who called 3 pass plays inside the 10 after jones had already scored a rushing td from 14 yards out.

ohhh didn't know that. well we will need him going forward. my guess is Golsen gonna miss some time.

Couple positives from individual performances:

Doctson with the big play

Cravens coming in and making an impact

I though Trent Murphy was big in the second half...man, wouldn't be great if he put it together. He flew around tryon Smith on the one play.

Matt Jones, I thought he looked great yesterday.

Our Oline played well....sans Kory on the false starts.

If they want to pass the ball so much then give him a screen. If I were Snyder I'd be all up in Gruden's grill this morning.
Chris Thompson is nice as a change of pace back when Jones is struggling, but to replace Jones right when he gets some momentum is just plain ignorant. Same with calling back to back fades from the 5 yard line, and not trying to pound it in with Jones. Very soft play calling, IMO.

Those two fades were just despicable play calls. If you want to do it once, fine. But fucking twice? You have to give Jones at least one carry there. Call a shovel pass or a draw, but give him the damn ball once.

I agree, the Skins are not a well coached team at this point. Way too many mistakes that IMO should have been worked out in training camp/pre-season.

I guess. But at this point how can you project that this staff will ever outfox a playoff team?

Just ask yourself: the Redskins are in the playoffs, they're playing Green Bay or Minnesota or Carolina or Arizona. Do you think Jay Gruden and his staff have it in them to out-gameplan and outcoach any of these staffs:

- Bruce Arians and the Cardinals
- Mike McCarthy and the Pack
- Ron Rivera and the Panthers
- Mike Zimmer and the Vikes

I can't see it happening. They're too reactionary, never ahead of the other team.

a little less heat on the oc, a little more heat on the qb. kirk says they had a run play called but he decided to pass; about 0:50 in the video below.

it's hard to envision but it's not impossible. still very early in the season, plenty of time to figure out how to best utilize the pieces we have.

Re: Skins-Cowboys Post Game Thread

They really need to just put a sign on FedEx during football season that says "Abandon hope, all ye who enter here"

I feel like the team simply doesn't have the coaching structure nor any kind of coaching IQ, a consistent QB or defensive push to be a competitive team. Watching the Skins is like watching a team playing to not lose rather than aiming to win. Just an all around disaster. Scotty has put some pieces in place and the Redskins are completely squandering it. i.e. Bruton is great in the box and complete dog shit in coverage. Why not use Cravens? Garcon hasn't done anything worthwhile in a bit, put Doc in and Etc.

Seriously what do the Skins need to happen for then to be consistent? This whole, "we win the NFC East one year and then the next year we're playing like monkeys flinging poo at each other" thing needs to stop and it's been like this for as long as I can remember. When was the last time we made it into the playoffs 2 years in a row?

Ok, I'll admit "when they needed to" was probably a stretch. My point is this loss wasn't on the D. That drive is to potentially tie the game if KC hits Doctson in stride (and the game probably isn't close if he hits Crowder and DJax earlier on). The defense made plays, forced fumbles, knocked the ball out of the receivers hands, got 'some' pressure/sacks...this defense isn't going to stop anyone all the time, but it was good enough to win on Sunday if the offense had made more plays.

Sure they forced a few fumbles and incomplete passess but they gave up 27 points. 7 of which came on an 80 yard game winning drive by the Cowboys.

Could the O have played better and scored more points, absolutely. They aren't blameless in this loss but they did score 23 points which was enough to win in 10 of yesterday's games. The offense was good enough, the D was not.

I strongly disagree on this point. We know our defense has problems and our offense has a lot of weapons. We needed to win this game on offense but our QB, who is a big part of the offense, did not play well. Kirk was the key to winning the game and he blew it.
