Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
I wonder what would happen if we traded our whole draft to get Sanchez and then selected Mack with the pick that we would receive from the jets. Would this be every fans dream?

Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
We're not going to have to trade our entire draft to move up 5 spots. 1st, 3rd and next year's 2nd should do it unless the Jets throw in a '10 1st, which I doubt. We're in love with the player, they have the position of need so they can draft Freeman and still keep all their picks.

Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
I just came across this thread and I dont think I can add much as everyone has done a great job covering his strenghts. One reason why I think Sanchez is so attractive to the Redskins is because, in a number of ways, he's the exact opposite of Jason Campbell.
Partly due to the Skins themselves, Campbell has had to learn something like 7 offensive systems in the past 9 years. I don't know whats going on in Campbells head, but on some level, thats had to have some sort of affect on him. Perhaps the reason Campbell is so careful and indecisive when he's on the field is he's simply not comfortable. Every time he goes back to make a pass, he has 7 or 8 different ways of doing things going through his head. None of it is really Campbells fault, but thats a reality. Campbell has alot of tools, but i think he'd have to be in this system 4 or 5 years before he ever truly got comfortable in it. Going into a contract year, are the skins really ready to make that sort of investment in him? Then, you look at Mark Sanchez. He's been in one system - a pro-style WCO system - his entire college career. If he's drafted by the Redskins, it will be a smooth, easy transiton from college and he'll be groomed by one of the best QB teachers in the game. He has all the physical tools a coach could want, plus he's got the intangibles - the charisma, leadership and voice this team hasnt had at the QB position in a long long time. By all appearances, he's the kind of QB you build a team around.... thats why the Redskins love Sanchez. I'm not going to lie. I want the team to get Sanchez. I think if the Redskins keep Sanchez, and keep Zorn around (or at the very least replace him with Holmgren or Shanahan), then the Skins will be on their way to a return to greatness. I firmly beleive that long-term, its a very very wise move. But here's three facts that i'm preparing myself for, should we get Sanchez: 1. I'm not going to like what we give up in order to get him. 2. We'll be ok in 2009, but in 2010, we're going to need a new Center, RG, and if Heyer doesnt progress, a RT, too. 3. I'm going to feel very, very sorry for Jason Campbell. i don't know how we're going to fix that 2nd problem. Then again, a year ago, i never thought in my wildest dreams we'd have DeAngelo Hall, Albert Haynesworth, and Derrick Dockery on our 2009 roster. I'm worried about 2010 now, but a small part of my brain is telling me "don't worry. If Snyder gets his franchise QB, he'll make sure he does whatever he has to to protect his investment."

BHA has less than 1,000 posts but I'm sure he has more words posted than some posters with 3 times the amount of posts! He's by far our most loquacious poster!
BHA, keep bringing it, you've added substance along with volume!

Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
Nice thread. Considering how things look right now, I think it's a good idea to kind of get comfortable with the idea of having Sanchez be our QB. I do like that he has a quick release and can hit his receivers in stride. It's also a plus that the offense he played in at USC is a lot like the one Zorn is trying to implement.
p.s. is anyone else extremely excited (or worried) for Saturday so we can finally move on, in whatever direction that may be? |

Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
Judging from the interview I now highly doubt that we'll come away with Sanchez. Maybe if he falls to Jacskonville we can get him but I don't know.

Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
I'm not sure you draft a guy because we have that current system in place given our history of constant change in coaches and schemes. What happens if Zorn goes 4-12 next year (not predicting this, just saying "what if") then do you really think Snyder will keep Zorn around? Or will he go after the next big thing...maybe even Cowher? We don't have the consistancy in our coaching staff to do something like this.

Re: Reasons for drafting Sanchez
Spurrier said no a few times before he said yes too. How do you know he will say no to 5 mil+ next year? Not saying he will say yes, but if Zorn goes 4-12, you bet your ass Snyder will be on the phone with his check book open!

Can't agree any more Goat. Without the O line upgrade, Snyder could somehow pull Peyton Manning out of his ass and we would still be an average team. Manning wouldn't last the whole season with this aging bunch of slobs. |
