No you got it all wrong. You sign him to a cheap deal, then go out and sign some old vet for like 8.5 mill while throwing away a draft pick to get him. lol.

I hope you all realized I was #1-joking and #2-making a reference to us signing E.James last year then throwing a draft pick at Miami for Taylor. I also kinda got the feeling Nflnick11 was doing the same thing or atleast I thought he was trying to. Perhaps I'm wrong.

I don't have a problem with Evans. I don't have a problem with him wanting to start. What I have a problem with is when anyone gives that vailed threat that sounds like an ultimatum. I have a tendency to want to say "Bye".

Dead serious Evans is a good backup up but starter, no.
You sign him to like a 4 year 15 million dollar deal with 3 million guaranteed

"Cheap" is signing a backup to a $15M contract all the while lying to his face about his status? That's neither smart nor cheap. Cheap would be a 3-4 year contract worth half that much, and give him a "chance" to start. That's what he asked for. A new contract and a chance.

Thats good then when said drafted DE starter gets hurt and Evens steps in i'm sure he will give 100% Wrong!

Evens has been an upright hard working player who if he doesnt deserve a starting position which IMO he does, at least deserves more respect than you are offering.

He's a starter already. Why not give him a decent deal?

I think he'd play the same role about anywhere else. We'll see.

Re: Demetric Evans ....start me or lose me

first off, you don't lie to him. and pretty much like everyone else said, you give him the chance to be a starter. the N.F.L is all about winning. if he can produce, he will play

Wow you guys are posting fast today. I posted just before Nflnick11 did and thought I was going to be the last post and everyones popped up at the same time.

I guess I should apologize for assuming you were being sarcastically funny Nflnick11. Clearly you were serious. Good luck with the whole lie to Evans and bring in a young, unknown drafted rookie thing you mentioned.

That would bring up 2 problems if we do that.. First, we would make Redskins organization to look bad which would make players not to be so trusting with us.. Second, Evans would complain which will bring up some kind of distraction.. Then we probably would have to trade or release him.. Not so much of positivity in this idea..

As for Evans wanting to start; I would not promise him that he would start however I will give him a chance to compete for the starting spot.. After all, he deserves to have a chance for what he have done for us last season..

Ok this is weird. I posted this at 8:29 on 2-20-2009 just a few minutes ago and it shows I posted it yesterday, 2-19-2009.

I say we let Evans hit the open market....nobody will want him to start or pay him big bucks. Once he sees that he is worth nothing, we'll let him crawl back to us as our backup who makes 1 mil a year, tops.

I think out of all of our free agents, Evans is the one who is most likely to be paid by someone else. That said, he's also the one whose loss hurts us the least.

Re: Demetric Evans ....start me or lose me

He didn't actually make this an ultimatum - - if I'm not named the starter at DE then I'm taking a hike.

But IF he did or if that is what he says in the actual negotiations for a contract, my answer would be, "Good luck in the rest of your professional endeavors. Don't let the door hit you on the way out."

Demetric Evans is not nearly talented enough to be allowed to pull off even the most basic "diva nonsense". Tha kind of crap would have to be nipped in the bud - - - IF it were ever to happen.

Re: Demetric Evans ....start me or lose me

According to JLC, we didnt even make him an offer:

Evans Likely to Become Free Agent - Redskins Insider

I know we let guys like Cartwright hit free agency last year but i'm pretty sure we atleast offered them some kind of contract first. The only reason I can see not to make an offer at all is that we have no intention of retaining him. Which could mean we have faith in Rob Jackson progressing and we want to get a comp pick for Evans next year OR we have our sights on an impending free agent we beleive would be an upgrade over Evans.

I'm very disappointed we didnt atleast offer him some kind of contract. But then again, what do i know? Vinny is far more qualified than me to make these decisions and its not like he's ever steered us wrong before...
