Re: For everyone that didn't give up!

I'm going to go ahead and call this thread retarded.

What so many people fail to realize - and it's the reason we've had this stupid divide on the site between "Kool Aid drinkers" and "Haterade drinkers" - is that there is a huge distinction between what you THINK will happen and what you WANT (or hope) to happen.

There's not a single one of us who stopped watching the games, stopped reading everything we could about the team, stopped discussing the team, or started cheering for another team. We all remained devoted fans. That's the one thing we all have in common here.

Our only differences throughout the year were in our opinions of how good the team was. Being a fan does not mean you think they're always going to win. Being a fan means you love them, whether they win or lose.

Retarded thread. Please start getting what it means to be a fan.

yepper it,s great to be in the playoff hunt again but i want to get back into superbowl contention again..but it seasons like this one that can bring a skins team together for a longtime to come hopefully....and one other thing your avatar is a great reminder that it,s been awhile since we last experienced something that special...i want more but having the team fighting it,s guts out again is a start. it feels good for once ....like you i want a little more.

That's the most sane post I've read so far in this thread.

Case in point: as a die hard fan for decades I obviously watched this season's matchup with the Patriots. Did I want us to win? Absolutely! Did I hope that we'd win? Of course! Did I watch every last down and second of the game? As always.

But did I honestly think that we would beat what is possibly the best football team of the modern era? Hell no. Common sense says we'd get our asses kicked, and we did.

Why some people can't grasp this concept is beyond me. Being a fan does not mean you turn your brain off and float around on hope and warm fuzzy feelings. You can be a fan and be rational at the same time, believe it or not.

Honestly, this thread is no different than that stupid "Amnesty for Kool-Aid Drinkers" debacle of a couple weeks ago.

Re: For everyone that didn't give up!

If people want to come out and say "Hey, I told you they'd make the playoffs," then I'm fine with that. Because that's a debate over what we THOUGHT would happen. And if you predicted playoffs for us, and we make it, then go nuts rubbing people's nose in it.

But for people to question each other's fanhood because people thought the Redskins wouldn't make it? That makes no sense. Of course we all wanted them to make it, that was never a debate.

Thankfully I don't think this fits the majority of people here, just the extremists on either side. I think most people here are rational and level headed.

I thought there was some unwritten bylaw here that I missed that demanded that you immediately question an individuals loyalty, "fanhood" and testicle size when they dare to raise any kind of problem or "negative" thought.

Didn't someone threaten to shoot somebody in a game thread for not being a fan? I mean seriously...

Well said!

I think if you are still coming to this site you are a true fan.

I wish.

I think jsarno was on some rant during a game a month or so ago and threatened to shoot me, or somebody else, it wasn't entirely clear.

I'm sure (?) it was all in jest, but even still. Hopefully it was one or eight too many beers.

I believe we're all Redskins fans. I just believe some people tend to be so overly critical of every single aspect that I wonder if they even enjoy watching the Redskins play football? At least, that is the impression I get sometimes.

I would agree. But wouldn't you also agree that some people are so blindly optimistic that they can't see reality on occasion? Is it wrong to point out and discuss the problems?
