You're so right. I was young and naive. I'm still embarassed by that bad boy.

Hesscl34 I think. She was one crazy woman. Seemed normal enough for long periods but hit one of her hot issues and all rationality disappeared.

You can see snapshots of how the site has looked over the years here

https://web.archive.org/web/*/www.thewarpath.net

It started in 1998 on Yahoo Clubs (now Groups) and then moved to it's own domain in 2002 ish.

Oh, so you actually started this on Yahoo back in the late 90's? So, the Warpath has been around in some form for almost 20 years? Wow!!! That's a long time commitment to something that's basically a hobby. But I'm glad you got this site up. I figured all that was still active was the official board and whatever Facebook groups that were created out there. I'm not Facebook though.

Re: I Got All Sorts of Warpath Questions

A lot of people just come and go over the years. The actual list of banned people is pretty short, it's mostly just spammers. You have to be a raging asshole to get booted. Even then I probably give people way too much slack.

That said we have had a couple of people cross the line big time. Like I'm talking personal threats behind the scenes. Things that just went way too far. The internet tough guy thing is one thing, but these days with how easy it is to google someone and find out personal info, it's not funny.

There was a short period of time where I served as a moderator on a music forum years ago. It is so funny, but yet concerning, that people could get all worked up over getting called down by the forum mods that they try to threaten them. Of course, I always went by a moniker that did not have anything to do with my real name for that reason. I eventually told that forum's owner that I didn't have time to police the board anymore. Eventually, I left it.

I was like you, unless there was someone who was such an obnoxious asshole that I had no choice but to boot them, I usually just took the approach of editing their posts until they got fed up and left on their own. In a way, I always felt having some posters who would cause mild conflict or disagreements made the board somewhat fun, but people often carried it too far.

Re: I Got All Sorts of Warpath Questions

OK, so someone mentioned a guy named Smootsmack. Sounds like you guys really liked him. He was an industry insider? Do you know who he really was? Also, going back through the old pages of this board and some of the links to the internet archive stuff that MTK had posted, I saw some names that don't look like active members now. There's a JoeCrisp (looked like he had his own picture as an avatar), there was a Ramseyfan, and a Beemseven or something like that. There were other names that don't look familar, but for some reason, those names stood out to me. Oh, and MTK, there was a Matty72 or something like that. Was that you?

I also had to chuckle when I saw a thread title back in 2002 where it was said that the Redskins would be in the Super Bowl in three years, lol! Well, thinking about it, that would have been in 2005, and the 'skins did make the playoffs and did get to the divisional round. Not quite the Super Bowl though.

Smoot is still around. Just in Twitter form. Just talked to him yesterday in fact. He's still posting McCoy pictures.

What about Hog 1? Also i forget his name but he was building a house in the country somewhere and would post pics of it? Im pretty sure he made more than one derogatory comment about more than one type of person and got banned. Anybody know who im talking about?

Edit - was it "first down"?

I was probably FD... lil bit of an asshole, but cool. hog stops by I thought...

Another good poster was the guy who was made a mod then disappeared...think he had ownership interest in a restaurant in DC. Think he was going through stuff. Knew a lot about wine.

This is kind of like a message board set up after some type of natural disaster. Everyone looking for survivors.
