Re: Chase Young or Three First Round Picks?

Scot McCloughan tells @team980 that Chase Young is the best DE talent he has scouted in the 28 years of his career as a talent evaluator.

And Bosa is a beast. Can't wait until it's made official. So close!

I agree. I don’t know why players air it out in the media. Maybe because it’s so easy to do so, because the media likes conflict and dirt.

Still I’d have been more impressed with Rivera if he had convinced both players of his vision for the team and why they should stay on the team. Perhaps he did, but it still came down to these players wanting too much money. I think in Dunbars case, RR wanted to “make an example” to show that he wants players on his program - or they can leave. But letting two very good players go, when this is one of the worst franchises in the NFL, is a bit much.

At least until Rivera can show the Redskins how to win, the team may have to overpay players to stay. I’d like to see the “home grown” talented players stay on the team. The only player to do so is Kerrigan. We need more like him, although that is not the way of the NFL any more.

I'd like to know if we have shown any interest in Logan Ryan at all? Not saying he's the be all but he would be an upgrade and ease the pressure on finding a CB in the draft (or free up a pick for another need).

I don't know if the Redskins have shown any interest but I read somewhere that his asking price was a non-starter with some other teams.

Yes, I read that too, but that was weeks ago at the start of FA. The longer he goes looking for more money the less he's going to get as teams will use the draft and come back to him as last resort. Not sure I understand some players and how they overvalue themselves; there's self confidence and delusion...

Did a new Redskins mock draft tonight. This one assumes a trade with the Dolphins for their three first-rounders. Would you rather see this kind of draft or one where the Skins take Chase Young?

I want Chase Young. I think Okudah would be great. But, if the other two picks are not stellar (not the players in your mock, but the players we actually pick) we are likely blowing a rare opportunity for a great player. I think the top tackles would all be gone at 18, too.

If we can get a player at 66 that can come in and contribute, I would be even more fine with staying put. We have some available spots.

In 1981 the Skins had a similar draft set up except we didn't have the number 2 pick. We took Mark May at 20, Russ Grimm at 69 and Dexter Manley at 119. I'm not suggesting that will happen, but Young at 2 and a good pick in the 3rd would work for me.

I TOTALLY agree, but I wanted to mock it the other way and see how it would go. Any other year I would be ecstatic with this draft, but if we pass on Chase I think we will regret it for a decade.

Re: Chase Young or Three First Round Picks?

"Meanwhile, separately, I'm told that an NFL GM from a team within the top 7 has been calling multiple times trying to get Chase Young on the phone for a 1-on-1 entering this week, per source. Source did not want to indicate whether the call took place since."

Also

Source: The Washington #Redskins are still fielding inquiries of potential interest as of this morning, but one team in particular has already laid out a 'complete deal' for their #No. 2 pick.

I forbid any trade with the Giants for the #2 pick. Going through the misery of Lawrence Taylor's career against us was bad enough for one lifetime.

I also insist that Detroit select CY at #3 if this trade must happen.
