Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Either way it is not going to be a knee jerk reaction if there is a struggle year one the coordinator or the HC aren't going to be fired. Over the last 5 years 23 of 32 teams have had a head coaching change 35 hired with 16 fired so there is a chance we don't get it right the first time.
Peters was the top candidate by many sources for a GM hire for the entire league and we got him. If he doesn't get it right the first hire I am pretty confident he will learn from it and get a better guy the next go round. I am also pretty confident that we will see a vast improvement in the first hire over what we have seen the last decade.

Word is because he's likely going to want some power in the front office/personnel.

Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
I don't want Vrable, none of BB's guys have done anything. Plus his offenses are BORING AS HELL

But if he wants say in personnel then I'd say we have to pass. I want a coach who is in charge of the team, not a coach who has say in who comes on the team. |

Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Doesn't mean they haven't, maybe its what some say about him wanting player control over the GM, maybe he just sees this as a complete rebuild and he'd rather go to a team that is closer roster wise. Maybe they called and he said thanks but no thanks. I think it would be uncharacteristic judging by how they have gone about it so far, of this new group to not have at least considered him. Maybe they had already decided on Johnson before Vrabel became available.

Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Yeah I think the principle of the ideal situation is that the GM, HC and head of scouting should work hand in glove when it comes to the final decisions. HoS should get a clear direction form the GM what types of player to prioritise, come back to him with a list, reports etc. then GM agrees with HoS who to focus on in that list. HC should be working with the the GM to stay aligned on where the strengths and weaknesses are on the current roster, to inform that focus. GM should be scouring the league for FA's, potential cuts etc. to inform the HC what he thinks the team should list as active targets, with the GM informing the list re cap space etc. Then they should all sit down at each key stage of the year and agree the final shape of those lists. GM has sign off in teh end because he controls the purse strings, but he cannot and should not be doing it alone.
The issue with a coach holding that GM power is that he is trying to balance the books and the roster at the same time. Like a HC also being OC/DC (not just calling plays, though I don't think a HC should be calling plays either), I don't see how they can do both jobs to the fullest capability. It's a recipe for burnout and/or failure. |

Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Any HC is going to want to have some say into player acquisitions .. Dan and his goons pretty much picked who they wanted regardless of the coach opinion and look what happened.. We could do a lot worse than Vrabel as HC .

Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Having a say and wanting equal or final decision making power are not the same things. I would imagine most GM's/HC's work together to build the roster. But the GM is at least 51/49 on final roster decisions.

Harbaugh to Chargers. It’s official. I actually thought we should pursue him. The record is undeniable.

Michigan got their title. Harbaugh seems to be plenty of things, but he's smart and a damn good football mind. Our HC is going to be Aaron Glenn or Mike Macdonald. My predictions, based on nothing but guessing and gut.
