re: New Orleans Saints/Washington Redskins: Bounty Hunters

NFL32 people including schefter were saying that the Redskins have been linked, like you all have said. I don't see us gettting punished for what happened 5+ years ago, with players that are mostly out of the league. The only guys that are still here are London and Rocky (who currently aren't under contract), DHall, Landry.

GW's defenses sent a lot of people to IR after playing us while he was here, so i'm not shocked, but is it really worth throwing cash in when it's only 1k here or 2k there for guys that many 100 times that every week?

The hits on Favre weren't legal

Philip Daniels is on record saying he received $1,500 for a game vs Dallas in 2005 and some bonuses were up to $8,000. Only player I can possibly imagine getting that kind of money would be Sean Taylor.

Ha, that would be my first choice. Way above Manning, RG3, or Luck.

FWIW, I get the sense that Brees would like to run for office in New Orleans after football. He's been very clear that he and his wife are committed to the city, if not the team, for the long haul and plans on being there.

Re: New Orleans Saints/Washington Redskins: Bounty Hunters

Well, to be fair I updated the thread title. Williams not only made no attempt to deny it, he apologized for it and said he knew it was wrong when he was doing it. Yikes.

Sean Payton knew about it NO, but I've gotta believe that Gibbs didn't know about it here.

Yeah, I mean according to the WaPo article, he was encouraging players to go out there and land what he called "kill shots" on opponents. That's not ok.

This does not make Daniels look good.
I bet he gets the boot.

Re: New Orleans Saints/Washington Redskins: Bounty Hunters

There were a lot of things Williams kept from Gibbs, which was one reason Snyder was always kind of suspicious of him. I'm guessing this was one if them

On the other hand, Gibbs had to have some idea of Williams' way since he was essentially a Buddy Ryan clone, one of the few people Gibbs legitimately could not stand

Anytime you have a bounty for big hits, it's likely to lead to late hits, intent to injure hits, etc. That's why no kind of bounty system is legal, because the league knows it's going to lead to problems even if it wasn't technically calling for players to injure others.

For all the people who post "I have no problem with it" or whatever, it's against the rules. Coaches and players don't get to decide which rules they want to follow and which they don't.
