Re: Redskins DE Jarvis Jenkins Has Torn ACL

Just be glad it wasn't the offensive line. At least there is some quality depth and other options out there defensively.

I don't think it makes a difference whether this happened in the preseason or early in the regular season. Sucks either way, but eliminating the preseason and playing 18 regular season games only means that your starters are more vulnerable in those early games (more than they would be in preseason games) as they will be playing the whole game rather than a quarter, two quarters, etc.

Tough loss - I'd be ok with Phillip Daniels coming in for depth.

Yeah thats the thing that stood out to me the most. It seemed like his knee just went out on him for no reason. Not sure what you mean when you say better sooner then later, can a repaired acl ever be stronger then a non repaired one?

You're right, he would still miss just about the whole season either way. But it just sucks to lose guys in meaningless games. I just hate it.

Major bummer, but I bet he will be back better then ever next year... one year off of rehab and lifting should have this guy looking like a stud, and he already was making an impact with just a couple weeks of trainig, so my guess is he will be fine.

I wonder if this also means Alexander may line up sometimes at DE, perhaps even Orakpo

Daniels makes the most sense at this point though

Quick, let's find a 300-lbs. 15-year old and suit him up! LOL.

Hines Ward is missing the acl in his left knee. I think with Bair and Ward they say that since the injuries happened while they were still growing that other muscles and ligaments adapted to make up for the loss of the acl. Still crazy to think a nba big man can be running around without both of his acl's. Obviously at any age your body is gonna adapt but the younger the better.

Should have reduced the preseason by 2, expanded to 18 regular season games, and started training camp earlier with an offsetting reduction in spring OTAs.
This....or close to it.

I meant that it was going to happen this season. Better that he has more time to recover for next year.

And simply put, no it can't be stronger than the repaired one (not like tommy john surgery). You can rehab it to a stance in where it was like you never had surgery, but even that is not 100%. Some bodies just don't respond very well to new acls (you can still play, but you just won't be able to do everything you could before your acl surgery), some bodies take it in like its the original. Alot of it has to do with the rehab also. Time will tell us how Jenkins responds.

You can play this crystal ball game all day....
The fact is that he blew out his knee in a come that does not count.
Player evaluation needs to come in a different form.

?? I dont get your point at all. mattyk was saying it does not matter if it happened in a regular season early on or the pre-season. I dont think he was trying to use anything for player evaluation.

And what form of player evaluation does your crystal ball suggest?

My buddy who I played football with in high school tore his ACL and had a piece of his hamstring used to repair it. The doctor told him eventually it should be stronger than it was before........ well he tore that ACL AGAIN 2-3 years later when we were playing flag football. I guess you can't know for sure until you're fully recovered. Or I'm just bad luck, I was there for both tears ...
