I guess the locks for DL are:
Carriker
Jenkins
Cofield
Maybe Golston

and then Anthony Bryant, Holliday, Jarmon, Neild and Haynesworths. In that order is my guess. If we add a true NT things could really get shaken up!
I think the idea is that Cofield is our "true" NT. Otherwise we wouldn't offer him $36 mil.

Bring on Cullen Jenkins!

Don't want to be a debbie downer but I feel like this could be another Shanahan arrogance decision making something work that may not..

Much like the Kerrigan pick, this makes our front 4 on passing downs very strong and able to generate a pass rush without blitzing help. Rak - RDE, Cofield - 1-tech, Carriker/Jarmon/J. Jenkins - 3-tech, Kerrigan - LDE

Cofield plays a lot of 1-tech so if we move to more of an attacking 3-4 he's a very good fit to play NT. If we stay in the 2-gap 3-4 he'll probably play DE with Bryant/Neild/tbd platooning at NT.

Great signing.

Redskins could use Barry Cofield in a number of ways - Hard Hits - The Washington Post

Nice breakdown SS33, helps my brain with the signing.

Another sign that the Fat Albert fiasco end is near.

I like this move. He's an upgrade over anyone we currently have on the DL.

I'm seeing a theme along the DL - versatility

I agree but hopefully they'll put the guy in good positions to get after the QB. But if they put him at NT then terrible move. Cofield is not a NT.

Exactly Matty allows for the amoeba defense to work super well

I think he means younger AND cheaper. The giants apparantly have guys they think will fill in well that are still in their rookie contracts. Not that Cofield is old, but the giants just have other priorities of where to spend their money, and would prefer to replace cofield with young/cheep talent and spend the money elsewhere.

In general the Giants do seem to be getting younger, of course not 100% of their moves will reflect that (like when I believe they will give Osi a big contract).
