Re: Redskins Sign Vonnie Holliday

Are people sold on these stupid speculations about Haynesworth that they think that any camp scrub or aging veteran is here to replace a dominant d-lineman like Haynesworth? My God, is not like we signed Haloti Ngata.

Haynesworth is not going to be traded period, the faster that people get this, the quicker we can stop posting these wishful trade scenarios. If Shanahan were truly in a rebuilding mode, then yes, a trade for 2011 picks would make sense, but he's not.

Solves a need while creating a need, and we're getting killed on the value side of that trade since Carter and Haynesworth are both individually better players than Brown. However, if Brown was going to be the RT of the future, and Carter and Haynesworth weren't going to be here past 2010, I might do it anyway, and just be worse on D for a year.

Who is next? Courtney Brown?

Can we stop signing DLineman who aren't going to make the team already...

Have we cut Renaldo Wynn yet? (who never should have been on the roster over Dixon...)

Wynn is a free agent, he's been off the roster for a while now.

Actually, I'm glad we're bringing in linemen that have 3-4 experience. I would have liked to see a 3-4 LB signed.

I didn't realize he had 5 sacks in a limited role last year. Sounds like he could still be an effective player. Read somewhere that he's like a Philip Daniels type in that he keeps himself in top shape for an older player.

looking at his rankings on PFF he's top 5/top 10 type of guy

looks like he was just a cap casualty, some good stuff at the bottom (voted as a team captain, etc)

This is a smart approach to instilling the work ethic you want on your team. The more guys there are who could take your job, the harder you've got to work to keep your job. Same thing Portis is experiencing at RB, and Kelly/Thomas are experiencing at WR.

And then the side benefit is you get a bunch of guys involved in your system through training camp, then when the inevitable injuries hit later in the season, you call one of them back and put them back on the roster to plug the gap.

Re: Redskins Sign Vonnie Holliday

We have bigger needs at 3-4 OLB than we do at 3-4 DE's. I still don't see why we sign Adalius Thomas.

Sure we're set at the one OLB spot with Orakpo, but Andre Carter didn't fit well in the 3-4 when he was with San Fran. Lorenzo Alexander isn't suited enough to temporarily play man or zone coverage. Ditto for Jeremy Jarmon, and I think that Chris Wilson isn't that strong enough to play the run, as well as man coverage.

just saying we should bring in some 3-4 OLB's who are proven.

Well this coaching staff doesn't seem to be that concerned about whether players fit a certain position or not.

Re: Redskins Sign Vonnie Holliday

Fittingly, two of Hollliday's closest comparables according to PFR are: Renaldo Wynn and Phillip Daniels.

Holliday's career is just really impressive, but only in hindsight.
