Re: Colt Brennan goes on IR
The Washington Redskins say they've decided to put quarterback Colt Brennan on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, ruling him out for the season.
The team reported on its Web site Saturday that Brennan aggravated a nagging hamstring problem during Thursday night's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Brennan and Chase Daniel spent the preseason battling for the third-string job. Still, Daniel will not make the 53-man roster and is unlikely to be a practice squad candidate, a team source told ESPN's Chris Mortensen. The Redskins plan to carry just 2 quarterbacks on the 53-man roster -- Jason Campbell and Todd Collins. Information from The Associated Press and ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen was used in this report.

Carrying 2 QB's and having another roster spot for another position may be the idea. In the unlikely scenario of losing your top 2 QB's to injury, there's always ARE. Hey...we're the Redskins....who knows what those crazy rascals will do?

I don't know that it will be either of the players you mention but one has to think their intentions are to add another QB somewhere along the line. On the other hand it is not entirely unusual because other teams have done the same thing in the past. |

Re: Colt Brennan goes on IR
Id be fine going with two QBs this season, it's not like we have a rookie as the back-up.

Re: Colt Brennan goes on IR
hey, then being a brennan fan and die hard skins fan, this is just great news! This means that we do keep a mason along with maybe an Aldrige and/or Dorsey.
It could also be a eddie williams, or a lendy holmes, edwin williams, daryl young, rob jackson, the list goes on |

Re: Colt Brennan goes on IR
I'll be interested in hearing from Zorn why the team decided to cut ties with Daniel altogether. Obviously there must have been some major concern with him, and since he played reasonably well with the oportunities he had, the only reason I can think of for his release was his size. Will be interesting to hear from Zorn.

Re: Colt Brennan goes on IR
Colt Brennan is an extremely talented quarterback. I think that he has remarkable physical ability, and a very high football IQ, with great "instincts." Criticism of him throwing an interception or two in preseason is frankly stupid. It 's all part of the learning process. As Fred Smoot says, he has a Farve quality to him that will make him very successful.
Colt has a dynamism and a leadership ability that you can't teach. He's a born quarterback, and there aren't a lot of those. Winning is about more than just the physical dimension. Colt has a daring that will pay much more dividends than a play it safe quarterback. He is learning to work within the system so that Coach Zorn can trust him not to excessively improvise. He will do that and rise to the top. Eventually, Colt will be a Super Bowl winning quarterback, and I believe it will be with the Redskins. |

Colt's the Future. He just needs to get healthy, study the playbook more and learn from Jim Zorn. That is unless we have a new coach next year who will want his own qb.

Breaking news out of Redskins Park:
Frustrated at being cut by the Redskins, QB Chase Daniel stuffed all the footballs he could find into his cheeks and darted off the premises, leaving equipment managers scrambling to find some footballs for tomorrow's practice.

As to his intangibles - you call it "dynamism", I call it "arrogance"; you call them "instincts", I call them "bad decisions". He tries to write checks that his body just can't (and will likely never be able to) deliver. This may change in time, but right now he plays with a style that his abilities can't support on a pro level. Absolutely, QB'ing is more than physical. But you must have the tools to play the game. If he wants to be a gunslinger, he needs to drastically improve his arm strength. Either that, or play like Montana who, not having a gun for an arm, made good decisions with the ball. So far, in two preseason, he has not shown that. In fact, if anything, he seems to have regressed this year.
