Re: Pierson Prioleau?
Springs is a great tackler, but I'm not sure we'd be getting the most bang for our buck by switching our best cover corner to strong safety. Besides, do you think Springs would hold up to the physical punishment he'd endure as a strong safety. Strong safeties are, after all, oftentimes in the box and getting nailed by offensive linemen and Springs is fairly injury prone.

But then when Doughty is in at SS, Springs could go in as CB and play as well. I was just speculating, that's all. And as far as my debate about is springs good enough to play SS? IMO, Yes he is, and he has HAD injury issues but if we had got Hall, rotating springs/doughty would have kept springs healthier as well as helped us in certain packages. Now, I know we need Springs as CB1 for us this year, because of Carlos' injury. Smoot had inpressed me especially as the year went on. I think Smoot will be FINE at CB2 this year while Rogers is being worked into the line-up as the nickle-CB. Then eventually he and Smoot will switch, with Smoot becoming out Nickle/CB3. I see us drafting a CB in either the 1st, or second, but you can't RELY on that CB to make an impact instantly.(you can hope) But hopefully we make a great pick and by the 4th or 5th game of the season the rookie will have stepped-up and will be a majot part of our secondary. We have Torrence, and Eubanks who are promising depth IMO. We haven't had young players as depth in our secondary in a LONG time. This is way better than having Ade Jimoh and CO. back there. Leigh Torrence stepped up last year admirably when he was asked to ,and Eubanks looks like he's young and promising. Hopefully our secondary will become one of our strenghts and hopefully we will be able to trade away some players for draft picks if they get good enough someday. ( Torrence, Eubanks ) |

I simply disagree with you're idea that Redskins should or would consider moving Shawn Springs to SS. -moving from corner to safety is not like switching from outside linebacker to inside linebacker its an entirely different postion - very few NFL corners attempt to make the switch from corner to safety and fewer succeed (if it were so simple most corners that lose a step would simply switch to FS) -normally a team moves a corner to safety when the player can't play corner at a high enough level---Springs is our best corner -If a corner was to move to safety, FS would be the choice b/c its more coverage focused; A SS primary responsibilty is run support, playing in the 'box' almost like a linebacker, Although Springs tackles well for a corner he would struggle with strong side run stopper These are the reason why i 'figure' Spring shouldn't move SS; also relax with the questions marks (??), its annoying. |

Re: Pierson Prioleau?
You know, I hate to say this, but.... I will anyway. I love Clinton Portis. He is a TRUE Redskin. Personality, likeable, and hard working. I just think we shouldn't have traded Champ for him. With a good offensive line, any runner can have good years. Not saying Clinton hasn't been a godsend, it's just that it seems like ever since we let Champ get traded, we've always been a weaker secondary. He was probably (don't flame me) the best CB we've ever had, or at least top 3. I REALLY don't care if you flame me, but he WAS BETTER than DG. No question. Coverage was WAY better than DG. Ever since Champ, I've felt like holding my breath on every pass play. When ST started playing, I felt safer, but Champ was great. Sorry, rambling on.
Not to mention now that LL has emerged, I can breathe again. Go LaRon Taylor!
