Pettigout was drafted the same year as Jansen, Pettigout went in the 1st rd we grabbed Jansen in the second. Dockery was a 3rd rd pick after we drafted Jacobs.

as a ND fan he sucked at ND surprises me he has played as well as he has in the NFL> Brian Mitchell today said it would be a horrible move to sign him.

Did Mitchell elaborate as to why he felt this way?

As long as the price is right, Petitgout is just what we need -- he can step in Dockery's place at guard, while providing excellent depth at tackle.

I agree, crazy to think but he'd actually be an upgrade over Dockery.

Heres an update from LaCanfora's blog...

Heard Petitgout had a very nice visit to the Park before taking off back home (he lives in Delaware).

Heard he looked good and appeared healthy according to some (Petitgout broke his fibula in November), and the film the straff watched on him was pretty impressive. In fact, at least a few people were wondering why exactly the Giants cut him in the first place, thinking maybe there was something unknown. 'Cause he looked good, he didn't save the Giants much of a cap hit, he's been a quality statting LT in this league for a long time and he just got a $10-million signing bonys from the G-men in 2003.

So what gives?

Anyway, NFL people say he has suffered from back problems, but I would't rule out the Skins getting something done barring him looking for another Dockery deal (he recently fired his Tom Condon and hired Rosenhaus, so with him that's always a possibility).

Negotiations between the Skins and Petitgout are ongoung, and he already visited Tampa and has drawn interest from other teams as well. However, there is not a sense from the Skins that they need to dive in here, either, and as I've said, this is a position where some coaches feel you can plug in from a mid-level free agent or draft pick.

Randoms: Found out today that Smoot got $7 million to sign. Not a bad payday at all. I also hear that the 2008 base salary might be guaranteed, so I am guessing he gets like $8.5 guaranteed in that 5 year, $25 million deal. Should have the firm details tomorrow ... Don't look now, but I hear the Broncos might be bringing in another decent corner for a free agent visit this week. Makes me wonder if they won't end up trading Dre' Bly if he becomes more trouble than he's worth. And you guys already know at least one team that thinks highly of him. I'm just sayin ... As of early tonight the Skins had no addition free-agent visits planned, but we all know that's always subject to change ... Okay, going to try to relax for a minute here and watch the second half of Chelsea/Portsmouth on TIVO. Cheers.
