Re: Portis trade rumor
Personally I'm tired of Portis bitching about pre season too. Everyone has to play a little bit in pre season. He is putting himself above averyone else.

Re: Portis trade rumor
Please!!!! Are you serious??? Portis isn't going anywhere my friend, he's one of the best backs in football. From everything I've seen and heard of him he's also a good teammate and a good person. He was whining about preseason because he had just broken his darned shoulder, he was just dissapointed and aggravated!

Re: Portis trade rumor
Your kidding me right? I mean you guys dont honestly think that Portis is a whiner and he puts himself above the team. He wasent playing with a busted shoulder for his own good. That man gives all he has to the team and for you to share this thought with us in my opinion shows ignorance.

But, Marshall Faulk was not coming off major surgery when the Colts traded him to the Rams. There's no guarantee Portis will even be ready to start the season. It's not likely a team would be willing to make any type huge commitment to a player with question marks.

Re: Portis trade rumor
If Portis is traded, this team will be taking a major step in the wrong direction!

Re: Portis trade rumor
They should try to trade Betts. He probably has more value right now and his contract hit would be bearable.
Trust me, if they dump AA Portis isn't going anywhere next year. |

Just for discussion, it would have to be a starter plus a first round pick. You can't talk about a franchise player for less than that. That said, "Portis will never be traded."

Yes, Faulk was at the height of his career, but your lack of knowledge regarding the salary cap is very apparent here. Faulk was not under a huge contract at the time, he was under the original contract which he signed after being drafted. He was also nearing the end of that contract, meaning almost all of his signing bonus which he received as a rookie had been allocated and shifted off the books at that point. The Colts didn't have to absorb much of a cap hit. On the contrary, Portis is still in the earlier stages of his new $50 million contract. For each of the years he has remaining on his contract, the Redskins would have to absorb that proportion of his signing bonus as a cap hit in 2007. That makes trading him cost-prohibitive. That's just a fact my friend. As far as Gibbs' tendencies, he tends to trade draft picks away for veteran players, not the other way around. He also tends to like veteran players, so while Demeco Ryans is a pretty good young player; he's still a first year guy. The Texans just don't have players or picks that Gibbs would be interested in. I hope you stick around on this board, RiggoRaider. I'd love to get your reaction when Gibbs laughs at the reporter who suggests that the Redskins and Texans might consider a Portis deal.

I'd much rather discuss the numerous things wrong with our defense. It's not like we should be hard up for discussion around here, there's plenty of REALISTIC things to discuss.

Re: Portis trade rumor
Trading Portis would be the single most unthinkable thing the Redskins could do to me as a fan, I'm a huge CP fan and would hate to see him in another teams jersey.
Keeping both Portis and Betts should be the plan - giving us one of (if the THE) best 1-2 punches in the league (unless Michael Turner stays with the Chargers), also resigning Dock and keeping the O-line inatct for another season. |
