and don't get my started on softball...there's a reason I play 3-4 nights a week, and know all the gear catalogs forwards and back.
[sigh] I miss the days of playing all week long and then tournaments on the weekend. Now it's Sunday church league, which is still pretty fun.

Haha thats funny... Im a redneck car salesman with no degree (I always hated school... or anything else that imposed authority...)

But recently I found a fascination with the game of Tennis. I thought it was just a good Idea for my wife and I to go get some excersize for free and have some fun while the kids play around in the gated courts (which are usually empty around Martinsburg WV for some reason lol...) but I have really gotten into the game... its a lot of fun... I wish I would've played in high school instead of beating up all of the kids that did... j/k...

As far as the workouts go, I find that 12 oz curls are the most rewarding... they dont do much by way of chiseling, but man are they fun...

Good luck...

Re: workout routines?

I do play some tennis at lunchtime now that I can't play b-ball. Don't wish I played in high school however, because those kids were the biggest bunch of collar-popping preps I've ever met.

However, let me go ahead and disclaimer by above post with the fact that I have no prejudice against people who chose not to go to college. Neither my Dad or Mom went, hence the reason I play for my dad's lumber yard team.

Re: workout routines?

Not sure which is worse, wanting to play tennis in HS, or actually playing golf in HS. But I figured, why the hell not? Free golf for several weeks at some of the better courses in the area...

Bohnzie, wanted to let you know we played that team last night with the Synergy and they let us borrow it (we scrimmage them all the time) and it's AMAZING.

I'm telling you. And that Worth Mayhem I posted is supposed to be just as good, if not better. Behold the power of technology. Allowing any fat ass to add additional distance and power to their hits instantly.

Dude, it was like I added 40 lbs. of muscle with that bat. Even with the restricted flight balls, we were all crushing it.

Re: workout routines?

BDB & TMC, would you describe yourselves as punch-hitters (wrist are basically locked) or roll-hitters (wrists will roll-over the ball during contact)?

Re: workout routines?

Roll hitters. See, I don't know any of this terminology. I just swing like I did when I used to play baseball.

Re: workout routines?

Okay, in order to be an effective baseball hitter you pretty much have to roll the wrists through swing. A lot of people switch to punch hitting in softball because if your bigger you can generate more power but typically you pull the ball with little control. A roll hitter generally hits up the middle and relies on the snap of the wrist to increase force. For smaller guys like me (5'8", 170 lbs) the increased speed gives you more pop.

I'm the smallest guy on the team and I hit the ball farther (4 or 5 HR's a season) than everyone on the team. Inside the park HR's - at least once a game. I don't count inside-the-park HR's as an actual homerun because it almost always involves an error somewhere during the relay to homeplate.

Re: workout routines?

I count them because I tend to place them where the outfielders have holes. A lot of times I'll pull it to right. Right down the right field line and they typically have their slowest, shittiest player out there.

Re: workout routines?

Reminds me of last night when right in the middle of an inning, this kid got pulled! Hilarious.

Re: workout routines?

my mechanics mostly come from baseball, so I'm a roll hitter. I'll hit around 20 HRs in a season, spread across about 60 games. Mostly, I try to hit gappers and oppo on the right pitch.

www.swingmechanics.com is a great resource for swing tips, and he has 2 DVDs that many people swear by. the guy who owns the site is a baller from Georgia, who is not much bigger than you 724 and hits the ball a ton. but he's got a ton of tips and tricks right on his website. that's where i got my grip from (pinky drop). and with anything you try differently, the only way to perfect it is BP. lots of BP.
