Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson

Why would we sign another old RB? RB's are OLD once they hit 29-30. This brings NO value, alienates Betts and continues to destroy our team spirit. Bring back Aldrige or Mason for heaven's sake. You spend on high priced vets when you have a shot to go deep into playoffs. We have NO shot at that, I'd rather develop young talent and spend less.

I saw Portis after game yesterday taking pictures with the crowd. He seemed fine to me. I bet he only misses one game as a precaution.

Let Larry Johnson sleep under the over pass before bringing him here.

I would not say it would be a "total" waste of money.
If LJ is signed, there is no waste at all.

Any player that is one the roster for week 1 of the regular season, then, the team is on the hook for his salary for the entire regular season. Even if he is released in week 2, he still gets the salary for the whole year.

However, any player signed AFTER week 1 is in the books, then if released you dont own him squat.

So if a team brings in LJ for the remainder of this season and allows him to prove himself before signing him to a longer deal, there is little risk and high reward if he pans out.

Instead of posting rumors, how about a better source:

Redskins Insider - Will Larry Johnson be the new RB?

Quote:
Speaking to reporters today, Zorn did not rule out the possibility of the Redskins pursuing Johnson. He said the team has had internal discussions this morning and will continue to talk about the troubled running back.

Zorn said the team will likely sign a running back if Portis can't play -- he specifically mention Quinton Ganther, whom the team released last Friday. As for Johnson, "I don't know," Zorn said.

I need to have a longer conversation than I've had to make a decision," Zorn said.

It all pretty much BS and Zorn just wanted to sound like he was actually giving input on what going on with the Skins.

Just so you will know it can only be a horrible decision if they actually sign him not before.

What I dont understand is we have RB depth already, Betts. Im not a huge fan of him, but why do we always look for something better when what we got is suffecient. Remember the Jason Taylor debacle? I hope we dont do this. Culture change is needed, knee-jerk decisions by Snyder and Vinny have not worked in Snyder's miserable ownership era.

I'm interested in knowing who's split. $10 says Vinny nearly shat himself with glee when he found out LJ was on waivers.

I think SS is on vacation.

It might be an ESPN-mandated "work vacation" though. Those aren't nearly as fun.

Is it a paid vacation though? Here at UMD we're forced to take unpaid leave (a.k.a. furloughs).

Portis could be out for a while, and if LJ was to get picked up it would be a short term kind of deal anyway with no real financial risk and no picks given up. Not saying I would support such a move, but I could understand it.
